VIXX Ravi Issues Apology for His Inappropriate Lyrics about Red Velvet

Following backlash over his song "RED VELVET," in which VIXX member Ravi makes numerous sexual references to the girl group Red Velvet, Ravi has issued an apology through his label GROOVL1N.

VIXX Ravi Apologizes for Sexual Lyrics Referencing Red Velvet

On Friday, Jun. 4, VIXX's Ravi issued an apology through his label, GROOVL1N, following backlash over the lyrics of his song "RED VELVET." Previously, the rapper received backlash over the song's sexual nature and the numerous references to the SM Entertainment girl group, Red Velvet.

In his statement, he sincerely apologizes to the member of Red Velvet who were mentioned in his song, "RED VELVET," as well as to the staff of SM Entertainment. He also apologizes to the fans who have been supporting him all this time. He states that he should have apologized early and said sorry for releasing a statement late.

Ravi reveals that he thought about how he should take responsibility for his actions. He informs fans that he personally called SM Entertainment to apologize to the Red Velvet members and the label.

Ravi says he feels responsible and apologetic for creating such a situation in the first place.

Ravi is reflecting on the situation not only as a person but as the founder of GROOVL1N. He states that while he was working on the song, he did not realize that people would find the lyrics uncomfortable.

He intended to express sweet and bright energy, but he realized that since a specific group was mentioned, he should take responsibility for how the artist and the fans would feel as he writes his lyrics.

The song "RED VELVET" will be taken down from all streaming platforms. Ravi states that he has consulted with the distributor to make this happen, though it will take some time.

He once again apologizes to the people who were disappointed in Ravi's actions, and he will strive to show a better side of himself. He will think carefully about his actions in the future.

On Jun. 1, Ravi released his fourth mini-album, "Roses." One of the b-sidetracks, "RED VELVET (feat. Jamie)," recently faced backlash after fans noticed the song's lyrics made several references to Red Velvet, the SM Entertainment girl group.

Due to the song's sexual nature, fans slammed the rapper for sexualizing the girls.

Ravi references two Red Velvet songs in his latest release: "Dumb Dumb" and "Russian Roulette." He also mentions the names of two members of the group, Joy, whose real name, Sooyoung, was used in the rap, and Yeri.

Further backlash ensued when Ravi stated he does not know the members of Red Velvet personally. Fans mentioned that Ravi has collaborated with Yeri on two songs and was even following her on Instagram before the incident. Additionally, he had appeared with Joy on the program "Get it Beauty."
