JYP Entertainment to Appeal for Re-Investigation Regarding Defamation Against ITZY's Lia

On June 15, KST, JYP Entertainment released a statement regarding ITZY member Lia's alleged school bullying, saying that the first filing of their complaint was not against a victim of Lia's supposed victim of school bullying but rather against posts and comments that were deemed malicious by the label.

According to JYP Entertainment, during the process of the police investigation, they found that four of the five posts that were posted for over two years, starting from 2018 and that the label have compiled, were written by the same person who used different nicknames, and the other one post was written by another person.

Recently, on an online community board, a post by a female netizen was published, who claimed that she had suffered school violence while she was in school. The female netizen was later sued by JYP Entertainment for defamation but was acquitted of the charges on June 13, KST.

JYP Entertainment stated that the police had revealed through an interview with media outlets that the decision to acquit the female netizen was that there is no evidence that the content of her post is false and that there is also no acknowledgment that the content of the post is true.

"The decision [to appeal] is not meant to mean that Lia is admitting to having committed school violence," said JYP Entertainment. They continued that both the artist and label plan to file an objection to the police and request for a re-investigation for defamation by timely false information.

ITZY Lia's Embroiled in School Bullying Controversy

Back in February 2021, Lia was accused of being a perpetrator of school violence when a netizen posted on an online community that the perpetrator was a member of a top girl group, has straight shoulders and was born in 2000. After the post garnered attention, speculations that the idol in question was ITZY's Lia arose, and JYP Entertainment immediately took legal action.

On June 13, KST, the Incheon Yeonsu Police Station, stated that the alleged victim was acquitted of the charges due to the lack of evidence and that the post was not intended to slander the ITZY member but merely express what they had gone through.
