Zac Efron’s Hand Injury On Set Of Townies Caused By Freak Accident, ‘Smashed His Hand On Ground Out Of Frustration’ Says Co-Star Dave Franco [PHOTOS]

Zac Efron’s hand injury, which he got on the set of the movie "Townies" - due to be released next year, was caused by a freak accident.

Speaking with Interview Magazine recently, co-star Dave Franco humorously said, “I beat the sh-t out of Zac Efron.”

Backtracking, he explained how Zac Efron actually fractured his hand.

"No, no, it was a freak accident. It shouldn't have happened, but in the heat of the moment, he smashed his hand on the ground out of frustration during the scene, and he hit it the wrong way and fractured it, but it's totally fine now."

Townies is about a fraternity house and its effect on local family in the neighborhood.

Zac Efron posted an image of his swollen hand on Twitter when the accident occurred.

Speaking with Kelly Ripa as a guest on “Live With Kelly and Michael” last April, he said he got it during a stage fight with Dave Franco.

Dave Franco, on his part, admits that he and Efron got a little too physical on set.

After the incident occurred, TMZ spotted the “Paperboy” star with a heavily bandaged
right hand.

The actor said he couldn’t wear a cast because he needed to go back to work.

Instead, the medics on set, “put like a titanium plate in it and a bunch of screws.”

The 25-year-old star began acting professionally in the early 2000s and became known as a teen idol after his lead roles in the Disney Channel Original Movie “High School Musical.”

Zac Efron has since starred in the films, “17 Again,” “Me and Orson Welles,” “Charlie St. Cloud,” “New Year's Eve,” “The Lucky One,” The Lorax (voice only), and “The Paperboy.”
