BTS Becomes 1st Korean Male Act to Achieve 'Million Certification' by RIAJ With 'BTS, THE BEST' Album

BTS makes another achievement in Japan as they receive a "million certification."

According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) on July 9 KST, the Japanese compilation album "BTS, THE BEST," which was released by K-Pop stuperstars BTS back on June 16, had achieved the "million certification" by exceeding the cumulative album sales of one million copies.

BTS the Only Korean Male Act to Achieve a "Million Certification" in Japan with "BTS, THE BEST"

BTS is the first Korean male act to achieve a "million certification" by the Recording Industry Association of Japan, as well as being the first to receive the "million certification" in 2021 so far.

This also marks the first album by a Korean artist to achieve a "million certification," with the most recent one being Girls' Generation's first Japanese album "Girls' Generation" that was released 10 years ago in 2011.

Beisdes BTS being the only artist to achieve two of the feats, this is also the first time that BTS had received a Recording Industry Association of Japan's "million certification" for an album.

Back in 2019, BTS' tenth Japanese single, "Lights/Boy With Luv," had exceeded a million copies and achieved a "million certification," making BTS the first foreign male artist to receive the certification with a single.

According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan, the Association awards albums with a cumulative album sales of more than 100,000 copies a "gold certification;" a "platinum certification" for those with more than 250,000 copies sold; "double platinum" for those who have sold more than 500,000 albums; "triple platinum" for those exceeding 750,000 album copies; and a "million certification" for those with more than a million albums sold.

BTS is continuing to write a new history every day on the Oricon charts in Japan with "BTS, THE BEST." As of Oricon's latest chart for the week of July 12, BTS topped the Weekly Album charts for their third consecutive week.

Meanwhile, "BTS, THE BEST," was released back on June 16 and is the third Japanese compilation album released by BTS, and includes the group's Japanese singles "Film Out" and "Lights."

BTS to Perform on "The Tonight Show" for Two Nights

Back on July 7 local time, the late-night American talk show, "The Tonight Show" starring Jimmy Fallon, had announced that BTS will be making a return for a "two day takeover" even on the show.

According to the announcement, BTS will be making an appearance on the show for two consecutive nights, during which they will perform their recently released single "Butter," as well as their upcoming new song "Permission to Dance."

BTS will appear on "The Tonight Show" on July 13 and 14 at 11:35pm ET.
