B.I's Trial Hearing Postponed Following Court Employee Testing Positive for COVID-19

According to the Criminal Department of the Seoul Central District Court on July 9, KST, the first trial hearing for former iKON member and leader, B.I, was postponed.

The Seoul Central District Court had to inevitably change the date of the trial as it was impossible to attend the July 9 hearing after an employee within the court premises had tested for COVID-19. According to the Criminal Procedure Act, the attendance of a public prosecutor is a requirement in order to initiate the trial. Hence, the public prosecutor's attendance in court for the trial hearing is essential.

B.I's trial hearing will be rescheduled to next month, on August 27 at 11 am KST.

As B.I's trial hearing was a formal trial, the "illa illa" singer is obligated to appear in court. Currently, B.I is charged without detention for the violation of the Act on the Control of Narcotics.

B.I Currently Facing Drug Investigation

Previously, on May 28, 2021, it was announced that B.I will be going to trial on the charges of purchasing drugs such as marijuana and LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), in addition to consuming them.

Back in June 2019 "A," who was being investigated by the police, had raised suspicion that B.I purchased and consumed illegal drugs. B.I was subsequently investigated, however, the investigation was cancelled after "A" had retracted their statement about B.I.

Later on, "A" had reported to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission that they had retracted their statement after facing external pressure from YG Entertainment's Yang Hyun Suk. The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission then forwarded the relevant data and information to the prosecution, which opened B.I's investigation regarding the drugs once again.

B.I later admitted to some of the charges brought against him. Following reports of his drug investigation, B.I left iKON and departed from YG Entertainment.

Founder and former executive producer of YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk, is also facing trials in connection to B.I's investigation.

Meanwhile, B.I recently released his debut studio album called "Waterfall" back on June 1, which contains his title track "illa illa." Following the release of his album, the singer and rapper faced backlash from netizens for promoting during his ongoing investigation.
