On July 8, Soyeon appeared in a new video of the "kizzle" YouTube channel. The "BEAM BEAM" singer promoted her solo release and talked about various topics with kids, including the time when she was a "Produce 101" contestant.

(G)I-DLE Soyeon Confesses Her Discontent When She Competed in Mnet's "Produce 101"

During the talks with some kids, (G)I-DLE Soyeon looked back on her past and touched on the competition shows where she previously participated in.

She first talked about Mnet's "Produce 101," particularly the first season that was broadcasted from January to April 2016. This program formed the project girl group I.O.I.

At that time, Jeon Soyeon was still a trainee and served as a representative of CUBE Entertainment in Mnet's survival show. She was quickly recognized as one of the best rappers among the 101 contestants.

Despite succeeding in the Top 20 in the final episode of Mnet's "Produce 101," she was unsatisfied while competing.

(G)I-DLE Soyeon said that when she wore a pink school uniform and started to dance what they were asked to do, the reality just hit her.

It turns out that she felt uneasy about the atmosphere of Mnet's survival show, as well as the rules, since she was not allowed to perform the type of music that she's more interested in.

Jeon Soyeon revealed that she wanted to make music that she likes while competing in Mnet's "Produce 101." However, she had to follow what they were instructed to do. And that's when she wondered, "Is this what a singer is?"

Later in 2016, (G), I-DLE Soyeon competed in a different competition show: Mnet's "Unpretty Rapstar 3."

On this show, participants are asked to write their own raps and perform these in front of a live audience and their fellow contestants.

Soyeon shared that when she rapped, she finally "felt better again" and that her happiness level significantly increased.

This goes to show that her participation in Mnet's "Unpretty Rapstar," which was exclusive for female rappers, helped her regain her self-confidence and enjoy the music she likes.

Prior to the release of her solo mini-album, Jeon Soyeon took part in a pictorial for the July issue of Vogue magazine.

During her interview with the publication, Soyeon was asked to explain the meaning of the character "Windy," which is also the title of her first solo mini-album.

(G)I-DLE Soyeon answered that "Windy," which is her made-up alter ego, is one of the numerous alter egos that lies inside of her. She added that it is as carefree as the wind and does not care about what others would think of her.

Soyeon also described her solo album, "Windy," during her interview with Vogue. She said that it is an album that depicts both her current twenties and the twenties that she dreamed of.
