BTS Named as One of the Top 5 Highest Paid Musicians in the World

In an article released by Billboard on July 19, 2021, BTS was named as one of the world's top five highest-paid musicians. Keep on reading for all the details.

BTS Named as the Fourth Highest-Paid Musician in the World

On July 19, 2021, Billboard released an article announcing the highest-paid musicians in the world. To determine who made the top 5, Billboard compared the RIAA's physical and digital revenue reports for 2020 with IFPI's global revenue statistics.

They then studied the international sales for 22 artists based on their rankings in the top sales and touring categories. They also uncovered publishing revenues.

The publication deducted 30% of royalties from all non-U.S. sales and streaming revenue.

Additionally, live streams, such as BTS' June 2020 Bang Bang Con, were not included in Billboards' calculations because of reporting issues.

Despite the removal of non-U.S. sales, streaming revenues, and the disqualification of live streams, BTS still managed to rank at number four on the list.

According to Billboard, BTS had a total income of $31.5 million. The group has a streaming royalty estimate of $14.6 million and a global stream count of 17.3 billion.

Among the top five, BTS was the only artist to have $0 in the box-office take-home category. Despite that, they still ranked at number four.

Billboard notes that among the artists listed in the top five, BTS is the only act that does not appear in the top 10 of U.S. money makers. Instead, they rank at number nineteen on the list.

The fact that they finished at number four on Billboard's list shows their tremendous global impact.

The group's $8.9 million earnings in the U.S. was slightly more than 25% of its global take. What really pushed BTS up to number four is their global streams.

As mentioned, they have a global stream count of 17.3 billion, with 9.8 billion coming from music videos and 7.4 billion coming from audio streams. BTS was undoubtedly the world's top streaming act in 2020.

Congratulations, BTS!

BTS has become the quickest act to amass five number-one hits since Michael Jackson, who garnered five number one-hits from 1987 to 1988 in nine months and two weeks.

They are also the quickest group to do so since The Beatles, who still holds the record for the fastest musical group to score five number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, doing so in exactly six months.

BTS replaced themselves at the top, with "Permission to Dance" overthrowing their previous single, "Butter." BTS is the first artist to dethrone themselves since Drake in 2018.
