From 2016 to 2021, only a few idols were able to fully penetrate the fashion world as ambassadors. Among numerous stars in the entertainment scene, BLACKPINK, BIGBANG G-Dragon, BTS, EXO, aespa, and more are the only idols who were chosen as ambassadors by major luxury brands.

Due to the increasing popularity of "Hallyu" content around the world, global luxury brands have been scrambling to have top Korean idols as their ambassadors.

On August 9, the Korean media outlet Fashion Biz released a comprehensive list of K-pop idols who proved their status as "fashion icons" after being selected as domestic and global brand ambassadors of the world's major luxury houses.

G-Dragon, BLACKPINK Lisa, & More: 'Fashion Icons' Who Became Global Ambassadors for Major Luxury Brands

Looking back, the luxury brand global ambassador position was hard to achieve as a K-pop idol.

However, it's all thanks to BIGBANG G-Dragon who played a huge part and became the gateway for other idols to reach this title – after being chosen as Chanel's ambassador and muse in 2016.

In 2018, his junior and labelmate BLACKPINK Jennie was also selected as a global ambassador, earning the modifier "Human Chanel."

Due to the warm support of fashion and beauty enthusiasts to K-pop idols as brand ambassadors, numerous luxury brands then followed suit, such as Gucci, who chose EXO Kai as its global ambassador in 2019.
