BTS' 'Butter' Single CD Receives Platinum Certification by RIAJ

According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), on August 10 KST, BTS' hit single CD of "Butter," which was released just last month on July 9, had surpassed the cumulative sales of 250,000 album copies and obtained a platinum certification in the album category.

This adds to BTS' list of achievements, as just last June, BTS received a million certification for their Japanese album, "BTS, THE BEST," which was released on June 16, and "Butter," which was released on May 21, also received a gold certification for streams.

According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan's list of certifications, those that sell more than 100,000 copies rank gold, platinum for 250,000 copies, double platinum for 500,000 copies, triple-platinum for more than 750,000 copies, and a million certification for those with more than one million copies sold.

The single CD version of "Butter" contains a total of four tracks, including their hit summer and second full-English song, "Butter," and "Permission to Dance," which was in collaboration with British singer and songwriter, Ed Sheeran. In addition to the two tracks, the album also contains the instrumental versions of both.

The album had entered Oricon's Weekly Album charts and topped the rankings. Not only that, but BTS also set a new record as a foreign artist with the most amount of number one albums on the Japanese chart, having a total of nine albums - including "Butter" - to top the Weekly Album chart.

Meanwhile, "Butter" and "Permission to Dance" are continuing to dominate Japan's music charts by monopolizing the No.1 and No.2 spot for four weeks in a row, from July 19 until August 9, on Oricon's Weekly Streaming chart.

BTS 'Butter' Music Video Surpasses 500 Million Views

The music video for BTS' "Butter" has surpassed 500 million views on Youtube on August 7 at approximately 9:15 am KST, making it the eleventh music video of BTS to reach the milestone.

The music video, which is filled with different scenes, as well as a dance break from each member, first surpassed 100 million views just within 24 hours of the music video's release on May 21. With its release, the music video and song broke multiple records, including setting a new record as the most viewed music video within 24 hours on Youtube.

"Butter" is BTS' second full-English song meant to cheer up listeners. It has since then captivated numerous fans and non-fans for its refreshing song.

Not only that, but "Butter" has also made a new record of charting at No.1 on Billboard's Hot 100 for 10 non-consecutive weeks, making it the longest charting No.1 song on Hot 100 in 2021 so far.
