Florida Sinkhole Swallows Swimming Pool On Homeowner’s Birthday: Woman Gets Surprise Present After Birthday Dinner, Discovers Half Of Backyard Missing

A woman from Orange County got an unnecessary birthday present when a Florida sinkhole swallowed her swimming pool during her birthday.

Suzzane Blumenauer threw a giant pool party on a Sunday night at her home in Winter Park, Florida and 'everything was fine' then. But on Monday evening, after going out for a birthday dinner date, she came back to the house only to find that a Florida sinkhole had swallowed her swimming pool.

Blumenauer called the fire department immediately and shortly after, at around 8:30 pm, the Orange County Fire Rescue arrived to find the Florida sinkhole already 40 feet deep and 50 feet wide, according to the Battalion Chief, Billy Richardson. The birthday girl, Blumenauer, was forced to evacuate her house until further notice from the authorities. Several homes nearby had also been evacuated that evening.

Neighbors were speculating that the Florida sinkhole, which swallowed a swimming pool, may be related to a nearby construction project on Lake Killarney. Allegedly, strange building equipment was spotted at the edge of the lake and neighbors felt their homes vibrating when the machine was in use. The giant equipment has made the neighbors question the nature of the project.

The strange equipment is from the Henderson Wilder Contractor of Orange County, a construction firm allegedly doing soil stabilization for sinkholes.

Florida sinkholes are very common, specifically in Winter Park. In 1981, there was a giant sinkhole about 350 ft wide and 75 ft deep that swallowed a 3-bedroom house, five Porsches, and a part of the city's swimming pool.

A geologist and other experts are expected to investigate the Florida sinkhole that swallowed a swimming pool in Orange County this Tuesday.
