Twitter Reveals the Most Popular K-pop-Related Hashtags Worldwide in the First Half of 2021

Five out of the Top 10 most popular hashtags on Twitter worldwide in the first half of 2021 are keywords related to K-pop, particularly names of some of the biggest boy groups.

On Aug. 23, Twitter unveiled the rankings of the most-used hashtags from January to June of this year in celebration of the "Hashtag Day" today. Three of the K-pop-related hashtags are boy groups and the other two are linked to one of these artists.

#BTS is the Most Popular Twitter Hashtag Related to K-pop from January to June 2021

Sitting at No. 2 on the Top 10 most-used Twitter hashtags worldwide in the first half of 2021 is "#BTS," which clearly refers to Big Hit Music's seven-member boy group, BTS.

According to Twitter, the hashtag "#BTS" was used 150 million times across the globe from January to June of this year.

BTS is one of the most-talked-about K-pop artists on Twitter in the first six months of 2021 because of these historic milestones in album sales, chart performance on Billboard, YouTube views, and more.

In particular, BTS became a hot topic when they announced that they will be releasing a new English-language single, titled "Butter." More than 300 million tweets about BTS and "Butter" were counted in just about a month, from April 24 to May 23.

Apart from "#BTS," "#BTSArmy" was also the most popular K-pop-related hashtag on Twitter in the first half of 2021. It claimed the No. 6 spot on the list.

"#BTSArmy" refers to BTS's fan club, ARMY, who often includes this hashtag when posting on Twitter about the K-pop boy group.

Recently, ARMY received thanks from the Secretary-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) as Indonesian ARMYs launched a free COVID-19 vaccination campaign in their country.

Another Twitter hashtag that made it to the Top 10 list is "#Dynamite," which landed at No. 10. "#Dynamite" pertains to BTS's first English-language hit "Dynamite" that was released in August 2020.

#EXO and #Enhypen are Among the Most Popular Twitter Hashtag Related to K-pop in the First Half of 2021

Securing the No. 7 spot in the Top 10 most popular hashtags on Twitter from January to June 2021 is "#EXO." This past July, it was announced that EXO is the No. 4 most-mentioned K-pop artist around the world from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.

Many can recall that EXO made their long-awaited group comeback in early June with their special album "Don't Fight the Feeling." The boy group became a sextuple-million seller with this album.

At that time, EXO's official Twitter account "@weareoneEXO" reached 60 million mentions on the platform, becoming the first SM artist to achieve this feat this 2021.

The last K-pop-related hashtag to make it to the Top 10 most popular Twitter hashtags worldwide is "#Enhypen," which took the No. 8 spot.

"#Enhypen" refers to ENHYPEN, one of the most well-known fourth-generation groups in this current age. The septet is also setting and breaking records in the first six months of the year with their albums "BORDER: CARNIVAL" and "BORDER: Hakanai."
