Heartbreak may have been a partial cause in the death of actress Nafisa "Jiah" Khan, who died last night, June 3, of what appears to be suicide. Police say Khan was distraught over a failed relationship to Suraj Pancholi. Pancholi, the son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, was questioned by police for three hours today. Aditya Pancholi was also questioned.

In a saga that has rocked Bollywood, Jiah Khan's tragic death by self-inflicted hanging has been the subject of mourning and shock throughout India. It's also called attention to depression and the dark side of the film industry.

Suraj was in a new relationship, according to gossip reports. Jiah and Suraj, who was studying acting, reportedly dated for about a year.

Suraj was the last person Jiah, 25, spoke to, and she seems to have hung herself almost immediately afterwards. The two spoke several times throughout the day. Their last conversation was at 10:53,PM, for about two minutes, and she hung herself between 11 and 11:30 PM.

Nafisa Khan's body was discovered by her mother. There was no note accompanying it. Her mother, Rabiya Amin, said to investigators that Jiah had been to an audition the day before, on June 2, in Hyperabad. The audition went badly; Jiah was told to lose weight. Jiah was discouraged over the lack of roles and the film industry in general and and considering changing careers, possibly taking interior designing courses.

Other friends say that Khan was very possessive over Suraj and extremely depressed that he was in a new relationship.

"Jiah was said to be very possessive about Suraj. Last night they exchanged text messages on their cell phones. Suraj also sent her a bouquet which she did not accept," sources told PTI.

Film director Gam Nopal, who gave Khan her her "big break", Tweeted a memory that might have been foreboding of things to come. He said, "The last time I met her jiah told me that everyone around her makes her feel like a failure".

Other colleagues and fans reacted with shock on Twitter.

Co-star Amitabh Bachchan tweeted: "WHAT ...!!! Jiah Khan ??? what has happened ? is this correct ? unbelievable !!!"
