Pokémon X And Y: New Fairy Type Pokémon And The Rumors On Hidden Machines

With Pokémon X and Pokémon Y set to release in October for the 3DS, a slew of rumors has surfaced regarding changes to the popular Game Freak franchise.

According to an article on Pokebeach, the already released new Eevee evolution, Sylveon, is one of the "fairy-type" Pokémon that will be introduced in the sixth generation.

Reportedly, fairy-type Pokémon are weak against poison and steel-type Pokémon, and immune to and super-effective against dragon. Certain older Pokémon will also reportedly be reclassified to include this new type.

Can we assume that Clefairy will be on that list? Only time will tell.

Older Pokémon fans have reacted somewhat poorly to this rumor.

"If they name the new type 'fairy-type', I will convince myself that I am too old to be playing this game," wrote a PokeCommunity blogger.

In other news, hidden machines (HMs), a staple of the Pokémon games, will return in Pokémon X and Y, but there would be "a lot less" of the items compared to previous entries.

When Pokémon Red and Blue first released, a total of five HMs were introduced as items one had to obtain throughout the game to progress the story. In later series, the number increased to eight with more variations on what they could provide the player.

It would seem that with so many changes coming our way for the 3DS games, HMs might take a backseat as a game mechanic in favor or other things.

Stay tuned for more updates on Pokémon X and Y at the annual E3 Expo this month.
