Coldplay's Executive Director Phil Harvey Shares How the Rock Band's Collaboration with BTS for 'My Universe' Started

On Twitter, Phil Harvey revealed a story behind the collaboration of Cold Play and BTS to release the song "My Universe."

On Sept. 30, BTS and Coldplay dropped their highly-anticipated track "My Universe," alongside its sci-fi-inspired music video.

On Oct. 20, s listening party was hosted through Coldplay's official Twitter account by singer Tim Burgess. And, during the event, Phil Harvey made a post to let fans know how "My Universe" began.

Based on Harvey's tweet, he mentioned to Chris, around 18 months ago, that some BTS members had said that they like Coldplay. He added that he heard a rumor that the K-pop boy group might like to team up with them.

Coldplay's executive director continued that Chris contacted him four months later and said that he has the song for BTS. Chris even played the demo of the track over the phone.

Although Phil Harvey spent most of his time in Seoul at a hotel due to self-isolation because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, he expressed his immense satisfaction in working with BTS.

He shared that it was one of the "brilliant moments" he will always remember. He continued that the rock band provided more details about "My Universe" and Chris went to Seoul afterward.

Phil Harvey then mentioned RM, SUGA, and J-Hope in his tweet. He stated that BTS RM did an "amazing job" with the Korean lyrics of "My Universe," while Suga and J-Hope did an excellent job in the breakdown of the song.

He further stated that the vocals of all seven BTS members blended so well together, and with Chris. "This is me and my three boys' favorite song," he concluded.

In other news, a remix version of BTS x Coldplay's "My Universe" was released on Oct. 19 at midnight KST.

After the remix was dropped, the Coldplay members took to Twitter to express their gratitude and appreciation for BTS Suga for producing it.

"My Universe" remix version debuted at No. 2 on the Worldwide iTunes Songs Chart and No. 3 on the European iTunes Songs Chart.

As for the original version of BTS x Coldplay's "My Universe," it is continuously on numerous Billboard Charts.

For the week ending on Oct. 23, "My Universe" entered a total of eight Billboard charts. The song landed at No. 18 on Billboard Hot 100, No. 2 on Digital Song Sales, No. 9 on Global 200, and No. 8 on Global 200 Excl. US.

"My Universe" also ranked No. 1 on Rock Digital Song Sales, No. 2 on Rock Streaming, and No. 3 on both Hot Alternative Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs.

Meanwhile, BTS x Coldplay's "My Universe" has reached a total of 100 No. 1s on iTunes Songs charts on Oct. 19.
