‘HYBE RESPECT JIMIN’ — Label Slammed for Using Derogatory Word Against BTS Member in Video

ARMYs are demanding HYBE Labels respect BTS member Jimin following the use of a derogatory word against the idol in a behind-the-scenes video. Keep on reading for all the details.

'HYBE RESPECT JIMIN' - Company Under Fire for Using Derogatory Word Against BTS Member in Video

On October 28, BTS's official YouTube channel, BANGTAN TV, uploaded a new "EPISODE," showing the behind-the-scenes from the 76th United National General Assembly (UNGA). Previously, BTS attended the event in September 2021 as speakers and the special presidential envoys for South Korean President Moon Jae In.

While ARMYs were initially happy for the new upload, reactions quickly turned sour. In the subtitled for one scene, HYBE Labels used the nickname "Chicken Jimin" or "닭지민 (pronounced 'Dalg Jimin')." The use of the nickname has caused rage from both South Korean viewers and international ARMYs, as the phrase is known to be derogatory against the idol.

Anti-fans and hate blogs against Jimin often use the nickname. While it is not uncommon for the company to use BTS's nicknames in the subtitles as easter eggs for fans, the use of this nickname has caused negative feedback due to its unpleasant origins.

ARMYs have taken to Twitter to trend "HYBE RESPECT JIMIN" to express their frustrations with the label. Many are demanding that the subtitles be corrected and never use the nickname "Chicken Jimin" in future BTS content. Additionally, some internet users demand that the employees in charge of this episode be reprimanded for their actions.

As of the time of writing, HYBE Labels nor Jimin have responded to the situation. However, the subtitles in the video have been changed to read "Park Jimin," Jimin's birth name.
