CLC Sorn once again drew criticisms following alleged colorist behavior she showed in her latest TikTok video. While the trend's intention is good as she claimed, it didn't sit well with her viewers that she recommended skincare products to "Squid Game" cast member Anupam, an Indian actor based in Korea.
On Nov. 4, CLC Sorn trended on Twitter for her racially offensive TikTok video toward Anupam Tripathi, the Indian actor who played the role of Ali in the popular Netflix series, "Squid Game."
CLC Sorn Accused Once Again of Being Colorist Following Latest TikTok Video
On TikTok, the Thai-born K-pop idol turned internet star posted new content on the platform through Wishtrend's account, a skincare company.
In the video then, Sorn "gives" skincare and beauty products to "Squid Game" characters, which is in line with a new trend. In context, the challenge aims for users to express their feelings toward celebrities or characters by revealing what they would give them, what dishes to cook for them, where to bring them, and more.
The "better" gifts imply that the user likes them more among other characters or celebrities.
In the video then, the female idol "gives" skincare products to the characters that she likes, but to viewers' surprise, Anupam, who played the role of Ali, gets the most number of skincare products.
While Sorn apparently likes Anupam's character the most hence giving him numerous skincare items, the content didn't sit well among internet users and accused her of colorism.

CLC Sorn Prompted Discussions of Colorism: Did the Idol Really Show Colorist Behavior?
In response, many found Sorn's video truly "insensitive" toward the Indian actor. Among the cast, Anupam is the only one who played a non-Korean character, and the actor also has a darker complexion compared to others.
Internet users who criticized the Thai K-pop idol pointed out that there's a skin bleaching product "offered" to Anupam, which appears like Sorn encourages the actor to have lighter skin.
On the flip side, some fans defended the star, denying that there's no skin-lightening product included in the products Sorn recommended. Also, her fans further defended that her intention is to show how she likes Anupam's character better than the other casts and not to show prejudices against his colors.
The video is currently set into "private," but it has already circulated on various sns platforms.
As of the 5th, Sorn neither Wishtrend released an official apology or statement on this matter. However, the TikTok account left a comment, "We want to give Ali a lot of products because we love Ali! Compare to just one single cotton pad to the old man?!" explaining their real intention.
