WANNA ONE Confirmed to Reunite at the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)

WANNA ONE will officially make their long-awaited reunion at the upcoming 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)!

On Nov. 15, the organizers of the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards announced that WANNA ONE is one of the performers at the forthcoming awards ceremony.

The organizers added that the K-pop boy group would prepare a special stage that will excite music fans.

In addition to WANNA ONE, they also revealed that the "Street Woman Fighter" crews will also participate at the 2021 MAMA.

WANNA ONE's reunion was initially discussed for the 2020 MAMA. In November of last year, a Korean media outlet reported that CJ ENM proposed the group's reunion for the awards ceremony.

The proposal is said to be inspired by the collab performance of former WANNA ONE members Park Ji Hoon, Lee Dae Hwi, Kim Jae Hwan, Park Woo Jin and Ha Sung Woon at KCON:TACT Season 2 in October.

CJ ENM later confirmed that they were in discussions for the boy group's collaboration performance but nothing has been decided yet.

WANNA ONE's reunion for the 2020 MAMA was ultimately canceled without the company explaining why.

Fans have since been waiting for another opportunity for the WANNA ONE members to reunite, and now that time has finally come.

The boy group's reunion was initially reported in early November. According to the report, the discussion with CJ ENM is not only about the band attending the 2021 MAMA but also about a potential release of a new album and the holding of concerts.

WANNA ONE's Last Comeback before Disbandment

WANNA ONE was formed as a project group through Mnet's "Produce 101 Season 2" and was active as a group for less than a year and a half beginning in August 2017.

The band consisted of 11 members namely Kang Daniel, Ong Seong Wu, Park Ji Hoon, Lai Kuanlin, Ha Sung Woon, Kim Jae Hwan, Yoon Ji Sung, NU'EST Minhyun, CIX Bae Jin Young, and AB6IX members Lee Dae Hwi and Park Woo Jin.

Before disbanding in December 2018, WANNA ONE released their final album, "1¹¹=1 (Power of Destiny)" in November of the same year. The album is actually their first studio album.

Out of the 11 songs from "1¹¹=1 (Power of Destiny)," "Spring Breeze" serves as the album's title track. "Spring Breeze" is an alternative dance genre song with synth-pop elements. It talks about how two lovers that were initially one got separated, and try to become one once more.

At the time of its release, WANNA ONE's studio album achieved the seventh-highest first-week sales in Hanteo history. It sold more than 480,000 copies from Nov. 19 to 25; this is the group's highest first-week sales in their career.

On music charts, WANNA ONE's "1¹¹=1 (Power of Destiny)" peaked at No. 1 on the Gaon Weekly Album Chart, No. 3 on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart and No. 12 on the Billboard World Albums Chart.

On the year-end album chart of Gaon for 2019, "1¹¹=1 (Power of Destiny)" ranked sixth.
