ENHYPEN Jungwon Makes Insensitive Remark Regarding Fans Taking the SAT

On November 18, ENHYPEN held a quick four minute and 49-second Naver V Live broadcast to promote and greet fans who are attending their fan meeting on November 19 KST, exciting and raising their anticipation by saying "let's have fun tomorrow."

In addition, as the day of the V Live broadcast was the same day as the 2022 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), ENHYPEN also greeted the fans who took the test.

The group had asked fans if they did well on the exam, and told them that they have all worked hard and did a good job. Member Sunghoon also asked if there are any SAT test-takers attending their fan meeting the next day.

Hearing this, the other members also commented, "The fan meeting is on the next day right after the SAT is over," and since the fans are done taking the exam, it's alright for them to come and enjoy the fan meeting.

While the ENHYPEN members are congratulating everyone for finishing the SAT, Jungwon's comment caught the attention of fans.

While talking about both the fan meeting and SAT, he said, "But the people who are coming to the fan meeting tomorrow are those who didn't do well on their SAT exam, right?"

Hearing Jungwon's remark, the members became flustered and silent and asked Jungwon why he thought so. But Sunghoon chimed in and said, "You don't have to do well [on the SAT]. You can come [to the fan meeting] to get comfort and encouragement."

Before ending the V Live, Jungwon added that the SAT is not important and hoped to see fans smiling happily during the fan meeting.

Jungwon Draws Criticism for Insensitive Remark

While the remark was only said in passing, Jungwon's words quickly spread to online communities and social media, where netizens have voiced out their criticism over his insensitive remark.

There are numerous fans who are working hard to study and live life as a fan at the same time, but many believe that Jungwon's remark looks down on fans who put in effort to study, or assume that they don't study just because they are a fan.

"There are many people who study hard and live an enjoyable life" and "How could you think of your fans like this?" were some of the comments netizens said.

Some netizens have also come to Jungwon's defense, stating that it was just a slip of the tongue while joking and that people should refrain from criticizing excessively, among other reasons.

Meanwhile, ENHYPEN will be holding their second fan meeting, "EN-CONNECT: COMPANION," at the KBS Arena Hall on November 19 at 7 pm KST. The fan meeting will be live-streamed online.
