Super Junior Choi Siwon Contracts COVID-19 + Unable to Attend 2021 MAMA

Choi Siwon was tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the 2021 MAMA. Hence, he will be unable to attend the awards ceremony.

Super Junior Choi Siwon Unable to Attend 2021 MAMA After Testing Positive for COVID-19

On December 10 KST, it was revealed by SM Entertainment that Super Junior member and actor, Choi Siwon, was diagnosed with COVID-19 after taking a PCR test.

Following his confirmed test results, SM Entertainment announced that the Super Junior member will be halting all of his activities and schedules to self-isolate and recover.

With that, Choi Siwon will also be unable to attend the upcoming 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) scheduled to be held on December 11 KST, where he was also supposed to be a presenter for an award.

In light of news of Choi Siwon's positive test results for COVID-19, his fellow Super Junior members and the staff who have been in contact with him will also be taking a test for COVID-19.

"Hello.

This is SM Entertainment.

Choi Siwon was diagnosed with COVID-19 on the morning of December 10.

Choi Siwon had completed his second dose of vaccine back in September, but was confirmed [to be positive] after taking a PCR test for COVID-19, which was carried out as a preemptive measure in order to attend his schedules.

As a result, Choi Siwon immediately halted all of his schedules and is self-isolating, and will not be able to attend the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (2021 MAMA), in which he was scheduled to appear as a presenter tomorrow (11th).

In addition, the Super Junior members and the our staff who have been in contact are also being tested for COVID-19.

Choi Siwon and our company will actively follow the guidelines issued by health authorities, and we will do our best for a speedy recovery.

We apologize for causing concern to many people."

Meanwhile, the 2021 MAMA is set to take place on December 11, with the red carpet beginning at 4pm KST and the ceremony at 6pm KST.

The lineup for presenters for awards include Girls' Generation's Tiffany and Sooyoung, Rain, HAHA, "Street Woman Fighter" dance crew leaders Monika and Gabee, and actors and actresses such as Song Joong Ki, Lee Jung Jae, Ahn Bo Hyun, Yeo Jin Goo, Jo Jung Suk, Lee Sun Bin, and more.

Choi Siwon's Recent Activities

This year, Choi Siwon focused on his acting career. He made a cameo appearance for the film "New Year Blues" as one of the character's ex-boyfriend.

Choi Siwon also became a cast member of the tvN music talk show, "Kwak's LP Bar." More recently, he starred in the TVING web series "Work Later, Drink Now" as one of the main characters.

He is also appearing on the upcoming Chinese drama "Billion Dollar Heir."
