Beomgyu Reveals He Initially Turned Down to Debut in TXT - Here's Why

On Dec. 16, Beomgyu made his first solo variety show appearance on JTBC's "Bistro Shigor," where he acts as the show's first "part-timer."

At some points during the broadcast, the cast members were enjoying a meal together and exchanged questions. Cha In Pyo asked TXT Beomgyu how old he was when he entered the industry, to which the idol responded that he was almost 17 when I began training.

Jo Se Ho also asked Changmin the same question, and the TVXQ member replied that he was 16 and that he didn't train for very long. "I trained for around a year," Changmin said.

TXT Beomgyu then asked TVXQ Changmin if he was placed in the debut lineup immediately, and Changmin confirmed, "Pretty much, yes." And, Beomgyu said the same thing happened to him.

However, Beomgyu went on to share that he told the company he wouldn't want to debut in TXT when he was included in the debut lineup. When asked why, he explained that becoming an idol wasn't originally his plan. "I originally played guitar, so I was determined to become a member of a band at all cost," he stated.

TXT Beomgyu continued that because the chance to become a trainee came his way, he thought that since things turned out like that for him, he should work hard. "But then, they suddenly said I was going to be in the debut lineup," he added.

In the end, Beomgyu changed his mind and he ultimately made his debut as a TXT member in 2019. He acts as the center and visual of the boy group.

In other news, TXT attended the 2021 KBS Song Festival on Dec. 17 and delivered an epic performance as they covered several legendary K-pop songs.

TXT partnered up with their affiliate group ENHYPEN for a powerful "Legend of K-pop" number at the said year-end music festival. Their collaboration was one of the main highlights of the event.

In addition to performing EXO's "Growl" and BTS' "Fire," the two fourth-generation groups also covered BIGBANG's "BANG BANG BANG," H.O.T.'s "Candy," TVXQ's "Mirotic," Sechskies's "The Way This Guy Lives," Se7en's "Come Back to Me" and Rain's "Bad Man."

This is the first time that TXT and ENHYPEN took the stage together for a special collaboration, and despite this, their tribute to the first, second, and third-generation groups received positive feedback from viewers. Not to mention, even BTS J-Hope commented on TXT and ENHYPEN's cover of BTS' "Fire."

During the broadcast of the 2021 KBS Song Festival, J-Hope took to Weverse to reveal that he was watching his labelmates on TV. He posted a picture of TXT and ENHYPEN performing BTS' "Fire" to Weverse Memories, and wrote, "You guys did well dongsaengs."
