MBC Receives Criticism for the Standing Positions of Senior and Junior Groups during the Joint Stage at 2021 MBC Gayo Daejejeon
On Dec. 31, the 2021 MBC Gayo Daejejeon was held, bringing together popular soloists and idol groups such as Red Velvet, NCT, Stray Kids, Brave Girls, ASTRO, The Boyz, aespa, STAYC, IVE and more. This year's hosts were Girls' Generation YoonA, 2PM Junho and Jang Sung Kyu.
After the event took place, MBC was under fire for the arrangement of artists during the joint ending stage to countdown to the New Year. In particular, many people questioned ITZY's position as they were standing in the middle of the stage along with MAMAMOO and ASTRO.

It was pointed out that ITZY is the only junior group, particularly the only fourth-generation group, which stood at the center of the stage. Though, Stray Kids can be seen standing beside them.
While ITZY stood in the middle, senior groups like Red Velvet and Oh My Girl were placed at the edge of the line. The other junior groups such as NCT, aespa, STAYC, and IVE were out of the frame as well.
Apart from the countdown stage, ITZY was also seen standing at the center of the stage beside the MCs during the joint performance of "Superstar", which gave them a lot of screen time.
Because of this, some viewers expressed their disappointment on MBC over how ITZY was positioned in the middle while the other fourth-generation groups were outside the frame. The others also expressed their annoyance at the standing positions of the senior groups like Red Velvet and Oh My Girl, asking why they weren't given enough screen time during the 2021 MBC Gayo Daejejeon.
