Kyungsoo was born in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, with the birthname Doh Kyungsoo.

D.O. officially joined SM Entertainment in 2010 after winning a singing competition. He joined EXO on April 8, 2012.

He is called Heenjabuja, Umma, Orchestra boy, Pop-out eyes, and Pororo (he stated before that he resembles Pororo).

EXO D.O. has a quiet personality, aside from that, he is sentimental and very considerate. He does the cooking for his group as he is a certified cook himself, and looks after his fellow members with care.

Among the members of EXO, he shows the most closeness with Kai.

D.O. enlisted in the military on July 1, 2019, and completed his military service on January 29, 2021.

EXO D.O. released his first solo EP, "Empathy" last July 26, 2021, consisting of of six new songs and two additional bonus tracks.

"Empathy" entered the iTunes Top Albums chart in 60 countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and more.

Aside from that, this album topped the daily domestic album charts such as Hanteo Chart, Synnara Record, and Hot Tracks. It also recorded first place in QQ Music, Kugou Music, and Kuwo Music digital album sales charts in China.
