Girls' Generation Taeyeon Named as 'Queendom 2' Host
On Jan. 25, Mnet took to its official social media accounts to announce the artist who will serve as the host for its upcoming reality show "Queendom 2."
Through local media outlets, the production team of the program described Taeyeon as a musician who has solidified her position as a top soloist in the music industry for 16 years while being known as a "reliable vocal queen."

They added that Girls' Generation Taeyeon is a "representative musician who leads global K-pop" and has a wide array of music fans in South Korea and overseas. They also mentioned the female idol being a role model of junior idol groups and that they anticipate she will give a diverse role beyond her position as the "Queendom 2" host.
"Queendom 2" is the second season of Mnet's "Queendom," which took place during the fall season in 2019. The first season featured a star-studded list of female artists competing against each other in different competitions that led to an intense "comeback battle."
The participants of "Queendom" were Park Bom, MAMAMOO, AOA, Oh My Girl, Lovelyz, and (G)I-DLE. Among them, MAMAMOO was declared the winner. The quartet was followed by Oh My Girl, (G)I-DLE, Lovelyz, AOA and Park Bom in exact order.

Because of the hot response of fans toward "Queendom," Mnet produced spin-offs "Road to Kingdom" and "Kingdom: Legendary War," which both featured competitions among boy groups.
On Dec. 14, 2021, a source from Mnet revealed that "Queendom 2" has been confirmed to take place this year. However, the exact date and format of the show are yet to be finalized.
With Girls' Generation Taeyeon serving as the "Queendom 2" host, the program is set to begin filming in February.

Girls' Generation Taeyeon Drops Pre-Release Song 'Can't Control Myself'
On Jan. 11, SM Entertainment announced that Taeyeon will make a comeback next with her third studio album. But, prior to the release of the album, the Girls' Generation member will drop a pre-release track first, titled "Can't Control Myself."
Taeyeon's "Can't Control Myself" was officially released on Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. KST. It is a pop-funk genre ballad song that speaks of yearning for love from someone even though it is expected to have a painful outcome.
After its release, "Can't Control Myself" entered major real-time music charts in South Korea. It debuted at No. 6 on Bugs, No. 11 on Genie, and No. 23 on MelOn.

The song also debuted at No. 18 on the MelOn Daily Chart with over 173,000 unique listeners. Additionally, it accumulated 217,990 unique listeners on the platform in its first 24 hours, the highest number of listeners for any artist this year, so far.
Over on Spotify, Taeyeon's "Can't Control Myself" recorded her highest first-day streams. It reached 448,047 streams on Jan. 17. It even landed at No. 7 on the Spotify South Korea Daily Chart.
