On January 28, the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) addressed the issue of EVERGLOW Yiren, a Chinese K-pop idol after refusing to do the Korean big bow.

In particular, KMCA is an association that represents South Korea's main industries and music distribution companies. In 2008, it was established to protect music content's IP from combating piracy. It is also one of the organizers of the Gaon Chart, the largest domestic chart in Korea.

Choi Kwang Ho, the secretary-general of KMCA, in line with the controversy, then said, "We respect various opinions on the controversy, but for the development of K-pop fandom, we need to think about the essence of music."

In other words, it raised the need to recognize the "essence" or true nature of music once again, which does not cause confrontation and conflict like politics or ideology but serves as a medium for connecting and empathizing with everyone across countries, races, religions, genders, and languages.

"It is the role that the world wants from K-pop fandom, to give exchange and harmony to all conflicting things through good music, " KMCA further expressed.

Lastly, the association expressed its willingness to work hard to form a K-pop fandom culture that is faithful to the "essence" of music that connects everyone with good energy in the future, regardless of race, gender, age, etc.

Meanwhile, after being criticized, Wang Yiren left for China on vacation. The female idol's agency, Yuehua Entertainment, announced on EVERGLOW's official fan cafe that it is due to her academic break.

"Wang Yiren will visit China from mid-January to the end of February for academic reasons. She will take a break and spend her time with her family, whom she has not met for a while due to COVID-19."

For those who don't know, Yiren was embroiled in controversy for refusing to do the Korean big bow and do the Chinese greeting instead, among other EVERGLOW members who bowed sincerely at a fan meeting held for the New Year on Jan. 2.

In response, Yiren was accused of being a racist and was criticized for not respecting Korean culture, although she's actively promoting in Korea.
