Jimmy Kimmel Likens BTS To COVID-19

During one of his monologues for "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", the host, though he did not mention BTS at the time, likened the boy band to COVID. He said that there are several different boy bands across the world just like COVID also has a handful of variants.

And just like COVID, he said that the boy band fever mutates because new groups are introduced every couple of years from Backstreet Boys to One Direction.

Kimmel did not mention BTS, but ARMYs noted that the host previously called them out during his interview with Emily in Paris star, Ashley Park, who is Korean-American.

During last week's interview, Park revealed that she tested positive for COVID-19 at the same time that BTS reacted to her performance of "Dynamite." Park joked that she thought this was just a visceral reaction to her being excited.

"You thought it was BTS fever. They're both very dangerous; you're lucky to come out of those alive," Kimmel said.

The host's comments did not sit well with fans. On Twitter, ARMYs accused Kimmel of being tone-deaf and unfunny.

Some critics couldn't also believe that Kimmel would liken the virus to artists when he knows that millions of people died from COVID-19. More people also said that saying that BTS is contagious upset the Asian community because the statement is very offensive.

As of late, Kimmel has not responded to the backlash. And the BTS members have also stayed mum on the issue.
