Meanwhile, Sunye, who made her name known as a Wonder Girls member, debuted in 2007 under JYP Entertainment. She became the group's main vocalist, and following their hit songs such as "Tell me," "So Hot," and "Nobody," Wonder Girls became one of the most popular K-pop groups not only in Korea but around the world in the 2010s.

In 2013, JYP Entertainment confirmed that Sunye will stop her activities with Wonder Girls temporarily after marrying a Korean-Canadian missionary who is five years older than her. Although the agency initially stated that Wonder Girls will not disband as well as Sunye will not leave the group, the K-pop icon chose to live quietly with their first daughter and officially withdrew from the group in 2015.

Since then, Sunye focused on her life as a missionary, wife, and mother of three daughters born in 2013, 2016, and 2019.

In 2018, Sunye signed with Polaris Entertainment to start her solo career. In 2021 then, the "Nobody" singer confirmed that she will be joining tvN's "Mom is an Idol." It is a reality show that marked the return of legendary idols who stopped their career to give birth and take care of their children.

On January 28, the project girl group MAMADOL debuted with their digital single, "Mama The Idol" where Sunye is once again the main vocalist. Unfortunately, the group disbanded on Feb.4, the same day of the show's final episode.

Nevertheless, Sunye attested to her activities in the music industry and continuous communication with fans although she will be back as a full-time mother and wife.
