Ever wondered what it's like to train as a K-pop idol? One former Big Hit trainee shared his experiences while training at the agency.
Jason Yu appeared on Dave Disci's YouTube channel and shared everything that he knows about training for Big Hit.
While it's possible that other agencies train future K-pop idols differently, it's obvious that time and effort are both needed to make it big in the industry.
What's the Audition Process Like at Big Hit?
According to Yu, he received a call from Big Hit shortly after he auditioned. Since he's based in the United States, he had to travel to Korea to train for the company.
Yu waited approximately seven months before he received a call regarding his flight details. When he arrived in Korea, a manager from Big Hit picked him up at the airport.
He was immediately transported to his dorm in Gangnam, which isn't very big. In fact, he revealed that four trainees shared one small room.
After he settled down, the manager took him to the Big Hit office so that he could look around.
At the time, he saw a group of trainees practicing their dances.
Big Hit Trainees Undergo Rigorous Training
Throughout the next two months, Yu and his fellow trainees attended classes inside the Big Hit office. He said that their only day off is on Sunday, but the heads at the agency still required them to practice on this day.

From Monday to Saturday, Yu and his fellow trainees attended all sorts of classes - dance, singing, and even Korean lessons for those that don't speak the language.
While training for Big Hit, Yu said that he didn't have to pay for anything other than his food. His flight tickets were shouldered by the company, the dorm was also paid for by the management.
They were also given $8 daily for their food. But he said that this was only enough for his breakfast.
So, for lunch and dinner, Yu said that he used his own money.
The Deciding Factor at Big Hit Revealed
After two months of training, Yu revealed that he was asked to perform a nine-minute routine in front of the Big Hit heads. This performance is crucial because this will determine whether he could be an artist for Big Hit or not.
Unfortunately for Yu, he didn't make it. So, he returned to the United States and carried with him all the lessons that he learned.
In fact, Yu said that training as a K-pop idol was such a fun experience, that's why he wants to try his luck again next time.

While there are times when he didn't enjoy his dance classes because of his teachers, he said that it was still such a fun experience overall.
Yu also stressed that trainees and artists undergo different training at Big Hit. As an artist, there will be more restrictions when it comes to food and weight.
But as a trainee, they were allowed to eat whatever they wanted. And they weren't also required to be a certain weight.
However, Yu said that if there will be changes in their hairstyle, they needed to inform the management.
