Rookie girl group NMIXX surprised K-pop officials with their performance – which is not like a group coming from JYP Entertainment, a self-proclaimed "Girl Group Master."
NMIXX Captivates With Strong, Unconventional Album 'AD MARE'
On March 7, the Korean media outlet YTN released an article on NMIXX, the new group of JYP, detailing their achievements. While K-pop fans continue to praise the septet, music officials have different opinions in regards to their performance.
On March 1, NMIXX began their full-fledged activities following their debut showcase and performed the tracks from their first single album, "AD MARE," first released on Feb. 22.
The public opinions are strong. According to aggregator site Hanteo Chart, their initial album sales surpassed 227,399, breaking the record in the girl group debut album history.
On top of that, what captured the fans' attention were the visuals and the members' skills.
Sullyoon, particularly, gained attention for her beauty which resembles TWICE Tzuyu and Sana.
Meanwhile, Lily M also garnered interest for her vocal prowess.
Music Officials Share Reason They Are 'Disappointed' on NMIXX's Performance Despite Achievements
A K-pop official told YTN:
"As NMIXX is a new girl group from JYP Entertainment, other officials also had high expectations."
However, despite their strong start, looking at charts, the group's song immediately left their ranking and was out.
In addition, as of March 7, there are no traces of NMIXX's new song "O.O" in real-time and daily charts on Korean music charts.
Compared to their seniors TWICE and ITZY, the official said:
"I was surprised by the lower-than-expected report card."

Surely, the aforementioned senior girl group is now established in the music scene, but it is highlighted how JYP Entertainment showed high confidence for NMIXX. JYP even sold a "blind package," without revealing the members' faces and names prior to the debut and gave them long promotions.
When asked if NMIXX popularity and hype was for nothing, another K-pop official expressed opinion, saying:
"That's not true. However, it can be said that the content that came out after the groundbreaking promotion is somewhat complicated. It is not public-friendly and not JYP-like."
In fact, NMIXX's debut song, "O.O" is a combination of Baile Funk and Teenage Pop Rock genre, introduced through their own genre, "MIXX POP," an experimental sound for the group.
In response to this, another music official from a known agency conveyed:
"There is no doubt about the visuals or skills of the members themselves. However, the complexity of the debut song 'O.O' and the likes and dislikes that are clearly divided make us doubt NMIXX and JYP Entertainment.
As they are just debuted, I think there will be a chance to rebound whenever they meet good content. JYP Entertainment also pointed out that as a large agency leading the music industry, it is regrettable that it should focus on 'public preferences' rather than "excessive experiments."
