Former Highlight Member Junhyung Donates to Help Forest Fire Victims
On Monday, March 7, Junhyung shared a screenshot of his donation to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association.
The K-pop idol donated 10,000,000 KRW, which is equivalent to over $8,000.
Alongside the screenshot of his donation receipt, Junhyung also posted a photo from the recent fires in Uljin and Gangwondo. He also added a touching message, saying he hopes his donation can help those in need.
Celebrities Donate to Fire Relief Operations
Other than Junhyung, two public figures also donated to the victims of the forest fire.
"Juvenile Justice" actress Kim Hye Soo reportedly donated 100 million won to the Hope Bridge Assciation of the National Disaster Relief on the same day that the forest fire broke.
The generous sum will reportedly be used for the restoration and support of large forest fires that also affected other nearby areas.
"Now We Are Breaking Up" star Song Hye Hyo also donated 100 million KRW to the Korean Red Cross. She also released a statement saying that she hopes her donation can help those that lost their homes because of the massive fire.
Other celebrities who extended their help are Lee Jong Suk, IU, Girl's Day Hyeri, and more.
Meanwhile, in 2019, a similar incident happened after a fire broke out in Gangwon Province. At the time, 2PM Chansung donated 100 million KRW to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association.
Each of the four members of BLACKPINK also donated 10 million won to the relief efforts, totaling 40 million KRW or almost $35,000.
Junyung's Controversy, Departure From Highlight
Junhyung made headlines in 2019 after he announced his departure from Highlight.
At the time, the K-pop idol also admitted to having knowledge of sex crime-related content taken by Jung Joonyoung.
The latter was accused of recording his intimate moments with women, and then sharing the clips with other people from the music industry.

Junhyung revealed that he was one of the people that received the controversial clips, and engaged in offensive talks with Jung.
In his statement, Junhyung apologized to the other members of Highlight, as well as his fans for his behavior. He also vowed to do some self-reflection so that he could be better, according to Billboard.
Highlight debuted under Cube Entertainment in 2009 using their former name, Beast or B2ST. The group's name is a shortened version of "Boys 2 Search for Top."
In 2017, Around Us Entertainment announced that the members of Beast would continue working as a group but under their new name, Highlight.
The original members included Yoon Doo-joon, Yang Yo-seob, Lee Gi-kwang, Song Dong-won, Jang Hyung-seung, and Yong Jun-hyung.
Jang Hyung-seung left the group in April 2016, and Junhyung quit Highlight in March 2019.
