aespa's Boy Version? SUPERKIND Draws Interest for Having AI Member + Concept

Are virtual idols really the future of K-pop? Following aespa, a new boy group named SUPERKIND, attracted interest from fans for introducing an AI member! Keep reading to know more about the quintet.

On April 2, Deep Studio Entertainment, a digital human production company confirmed the debut of its new boy group this summer 2022.

SUPERKIND to Debut in Summer – Who Are They?

Initially, the group received attention as YOURS Project. The company introduced rookies and idol trainees through promotional materials such as photos, videos, etc.

After some of the rookies left the company, the project rebranded into a pre-debut group named SUPERKIND.

In Summer, a five-member boy group will be introduced, comprised of Daemon, Eugene, SiO, Geon, and Sae Jin.

In their "Examine Score Test" profile photos, Eugene, born in 1999 is the eldest among five members. The youngest is SiO, a 2004-liner. Geon is 00-liner while Daemon was born in 2001.

Among them, Sae Jin drew attention for having "??" in his birth year. What is the reason for not having a birth year?

To explain this, among five members, only four are actually real humans! Jung Sae Jin, created on July 3 without a year is a virtual trainee powered by AI.

Prior to being "scouted" as an idol, Sae Jin is a model on TikTok and Instagram. He has a decent number of followers and supporters. When Yours Project re-branded into SUPERKIND, the AI member was the first one to be introduced through a teaser video.

The video eventually attracted attention from K-pop enthusiasts and other fandoms for the clip, "Paying homage to iconic MVs" of male boy groups including THE BOYZ, NCT, etc.

His visuals also became a huge topic for his resemblance with ASTRO Cha Eunwoo. As of writing, the video already amassed about 300,000 views on YouTube. It was two months since it was uploaded.

In TikTok, Sae Jin is also actively promoting content. He gained huge attention from fans overseas.

In response, some internet users compared SUPERKIND to aespa, the first K-pop group to introduce AI and human members. aespa particularly have ae-aespa, their AI counterparts.

However this time, Sae Jin does not have any human alter. He will be completely promoting with the team virtually.

Furthermore, the concept of SUPERKIND also piqued the interest of K-pop fans.

SUPERKIND is a five-member group under a story-world creation community with the same name. They aspire to become the first decentralized K-pop entertainers.

They clarified that they were neither a fan club nor a management corporate but more like a game. They aim to incorporate new ways to enjoy K-pop.

In fact, Deep Studio recently attracted additional investment from Neptune, a Korean game company that created the mobile game Friends Sacheonseong. With the partnership, the company plans to continue to introduce short-form content aimed at K-POP fans using SUPERKIND.

To explain it a bit further, SUPERKIND's concept, story, image, music and choreography will be created along with K-pop fans.
