Here's Story Behind How 2NE1 Reunion Became Possible at 2022 Coachella

Following the surprising reunion of 2NE1 at the 2022 Coachella, officials from the members' respective agencies shared how the quartet made the stage possible.

CL Leads 2NE1 Reunion - How Did Singer Make Other Members Agree to Perform at Coachella?

On April 20, the Korean media outlet Cookie News released each side of members' agencies on how the K-pop icon 2NE1 was able to stand at the same stage once again as a four-member team.

According to the news outlet, prior to the main stage, CL hinted at her old bandmates her plan to get 2NE1 to reunite once again.

The group's leader texted:

"If 2NE1 gets together again, I hope it's not lukewarm."

Little did fans know, the "Fire" singer is actually preparing with the other members to go up to the Coachella Festival in California on April 17. During the event, the quartet heated the stage as they sang their hit song "I Am The Best."

The production became emotional and exciting for the whole music scene, as it was the first complete performance of 2NE1 since the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Festival (MAMA).

But how did the reunion performance that made K-pop fans all over the world go wild become possible?

Officials from CL's side revealed on April 19:

"After being invited to the Coachella Festival, CL proposed a joint performance to the members of 2NE1. It happened that they had been meeting regularly for the past few years to build friendships. The four gathered together on CL's birthday in February and Park Bom's birthday in March.

An official from Very Cherry, the agency founded by CL, added:

"CL tried to create a surprise event stage by coordinating with the members for the fans who miss 2NE1. We not only directed the stage composition but also the styling, realizing 2NE1's heyday on the Coachella stage."

While the process between agencies is commonly one of the reasons why a disbanded group had a hard time having a reunion, it was revealed that the members didn't undergo these difficulties.

It was due to reason that even the members keep this a secret even to their own agencies.

An official from Park Bom's side explained:

"We didn't know (the fact that 2NE1 members will be on stage together). We only knew she went to the US to work on an album. I think all four of the members were very concerned about security."

Another member's (possibly Dara or Minzy) agency also said:

"We didn't get informed in advance that the four of them will be on the stage together at the Coachella Festival. We didn't know until we saw the article."

Following the "Lonely" singers' successful reunion, the quartet immediately rose as the most-talked-about topic on social media platforms, media outlets and online communities.

In fact, there are people, particularly BLACKJACKs (2NE1 fandom) are curious if it is possible for 2NE1 to release a new album.

Cookie News then concluded:

"It is unclear whether this performance will signal a formal reunification of 2NE1."

Nevertheless, rest assured that this will not be the last performance of the four-member team together.

Dara said:

"I hope that we will be together again, and let's continue to support each other and work hard in our respective positions."
