Soyeon Picks Marilyn Monroe as (G)I-DLE's Next Album Concept – Here's Why
On May 14, Jeon Soyeon appeared on MBC's entertainment show, "I Live Alone." During the broadcast, she made a mini-house tour and showed her honest and confident charm from revealing her weight to showing up on camera bare-faced.
But what captured the attention of viewers the most was the "TOMBOY" singer's meeting with CUBE Entertainment's staff.
In particular, Jeon Soyeon and her agency's staff held a meeting where she presented her ideas in regards to the next album planning for (G)I-DLE.

The female star drew admiration by saying:
"I plan (G)I-DLE's album name, song arrangement, music video, costume, hair, and nail draft."
In the meantime, the "MY BAG" singer gave a sneak peek of the group's possible next album concept and said
"There is a message I want to convey. It is, 'I rather be hated for who I am than to be loved for what I am not.'"
Soyeon surprised the staff and viewers when she said that she was inspired by Marilyn Monroe and chose it as the concept for their next album.
Jeon explained:
"In the past, Marilyn Monroe is famous for being a 'blonde bombshell' and is considered to be a 'sex symbol'. But actually, I was told that she liked books and was very smart."
The K-pop star emphasized how the American actress and icon strived to show her real self, rather than conforming to the public image of Monroe being just a "symbol."

Soyeon continued:
"Even if you think of me like that, I'm (actually) this kind of person. Even if you loved me by being like that, I have lived thinking, 'I'll be loved for who I am.' I want to break the prejudice that it is racy. You can think of it as metaphorically expressing that, 'Even if I'm never loved by you again, (at least) I'll be me."
Jeon Soyeon showcased her strong desire to do the bold concept to show that she is confident in being "I."
In response, some employees expressed concern, saying:
"I know the meaning, but it is misleading in that it is intuitively seen from the album jacket."
Jeon said:
"I always come up with bold ideas, and the company wants to be careful. At first, they said, "Never," and "That's not it," and then we find an agreement and coordinate it."
