HA:TFELT Wants to Have More Feminists in K-pop – Here's Why

Former Wonder Girls Yeeun, also known as HA:TFELT, says she wishes more K-pop idols would join the feminist movement for THIS reason.

HA:TFELT Proudly Says She's Feminist – Here Are Her Thoughts on Movement

On May 19, the Korean media outlet Hankyoreh (한겨레) released an article containing an interview with HA:TFELT, who initially rose into popularity as Wonder Girls Yeeun.

During the interview, the "FINE!" singer talked about her latest album, "LEFT," released in April, her career as a singer-songwriter, and more.

While on the topic of feminism, the K-pop icon proudly identifies herself as a "feminist." When asked about her ideologies, she said:

"It's a right value for women to have equal rights with men. Feminism starts with that value. So I say, feminist. It's the right value."

This is not the first time that the "LA LUNA" singer opened up about being a supporter of the socio-political movement.

In 2020, she bravely confessed it in the public, despite criticisms that she may face since being a feminist in South Korea often equates to getting backlash from male citizens.

In regards to being hated and criticized, Yeeeun confessed to being misunderstood for what she fights for and said:

"It's really a pity that the negative views on feminist and the atmosphere (like that) is created due to actions and remarks that I didn't even do, such as loathe men."

HA:TFELT Hopes for More Idols To Join Feminist Movement – Here's Why

Despite criticism against her, these negative opinions about HA:TFELT didn't stop her to fight for women's rights and equality. In fact, she was appointed as a member of the Special Committee of the Ministry of Justice's response TF, including digital sex crimes in July last year before resigning on May 20, 2022.

Although the Ministry of Justice often appointed celebrities as ambassadors, the "Tempo" singer was the first to become a committee member.

Prosecutor Seo Ji Hyun, who sparked the #MeToo movement in Korea, sent a direct message (DM) as the team leader of the task force and recruited HA:TFELT as an official member.

According to the prosecutor, Seo judged that the K-pop star is an expert who experienced the controversy over the commercialization of female idols and misogyny.

In the interview, the idol then revealed her desire to have more feminists in the K-pop scene to eradicate such sexualization and misogyny that mostly female idols encounter. She said:

"I hope there will be more feminist artists. Will there be more artists like that? Even if female artists don't say 'I'm a feminist,' I think there will be a growing movement to move away from the values of women they want in society and work in various ways."
