BTS Shocks Many With Announcement of Group Hiatus
On June 13, the BTS members concluded their 2022 BTS Festa, an annual celebration of their debut anniversary, by holding a dinner together where they talked about the past nine years of their careers and shared their honest thoughts.
At the same time, BTS also announced that they will be going on an indefinite hiatus from group activities to pursue solo activities.

Leader RM had also shared the reasons why BTS needs to focus on their solo activities, stating that he no longer knew which direction he needed to take as the group's leader. He also notes that BTS has definitely changed, and that they didn't know what kind of group they were anymore after releasing "Butter" and "Permission to Dance."
Following the "Festa Dinner," both fans and non-fans were shocked with the sudden announcement. In fact, HYBE's stock value even saw a drastic decrease, and there has since then been speculations surrounding their hiatus, including disbandment.
BTS RM Addresses Concerns of Group's Disbandment Following Hiatus
As many began to speculate that the group is planning to disband due to the remarks made during the "Festa Dinner," RM wrote a lengthy letter on the global fan community platform, Weverse, to address the rumors on June 16.
On Weverse, RM wrote:
"I have received the most contact since I debuted after the broadcast aired.
Looking at the screenshots and article headlines that were sent to me, there were many stimulating and fragmented keywords such as 'disbandment,' 'halting group promotions,' and 'announcing group hiatus.' It is not like I didn't know that this would happen or was prepared for this to happen, but it is still very bitter. It is not that I wanted everyone to watch the full broadcast of us being weepy and whiny before leaving their comments, though.
The BTS 'dinner' is an occasional content format that was aired on June 13, which is a significant date. It was a video dedicated to all ARMYs who have been with us for the past nine years. Of course, the non-ARMYs might think that the members and I were being overdramatic or that we were being ungrateful. But there is nearly 10 years of time between ARMYs and us when we shared anything and everything. What we have is special, without a doubt.
This sentiment is extremely difficult to define in words, although we have had to try explaining it a thousand times in all of the interviews we have had. The broadcast had been a totally honest, and almost confession-like moment that we wanted to share with ARMYs, who formed and held on to that indescribable bond with us without asking for anything in return. As clear as it would have been to those who actually watched the video, we explained throughout the broadcast that this is not the end for us, just like the title of the song 'Yet To Come' suggests. Now that I see screenshots of me bawling my eyes out on the internet, and triggering a lot of misinterpretations, I am starting to think I shouldn't have been all that passionate. It seems that unnecessary dramas and misunderstanding were caused by my courage to be completely transparent and honest.
What I want to say is that we did not hide the truth by saying two is one. We have said one is one and just wanted to share our honest thoughts in courage and tears. I believe and have no doubt that ARMYs would understand us. What we said in the video is everything. Jungkook and Taehyung (V) did explain it well, but we always openly talk about the long-term future of BTS. Yes, there have been rough patches and hard feelings for us, but we met when we were all so young. We have gone through a fair amount of trial and error, but that is because we have been growing and maturing together through our teens and our twenties.
I feel like this post is going to be dramatic as well... I'm afraid it will feed the trolls more. But I wanted to briefly explain myself since I did say a lot of things in the broadcast. I want to thank everyone who has watched the broadcast and for sending us support, love, and positive energy from near and far. Going forward, we will put the effort to show our good side, whether is be through group or individual activities.
Thank you."
