Lay's Debut With EXO + Departure from SM Entertainment
Lay signed with SM Entertainment when he was 16 years old after passing a global casting audition in Wuhan. He was first revealed as one of the four Chinese members of EXO on January 12 and officially debuted with EXO-M on April 8, 2012.

He remained with SM Entertainment for ten years since his debut. Though all the other Chinese members of EXO left, Lay remained the only Chinese member of the group. However, he stopped publicly appearing with EXO in February 2017 to focus on his career in China. The idol also remained in China due to strains in South Korean-Chinese relations.
While he did participate in some EXO songs, such as "Tempo" in 2018 and "Don't Fight the Feeling" in 2021, he did not return to South Korea for any EXO promotions. On April 8, 2022, Lay officially left SM Entertainment but hinted he was still an EXO member through a handwritten letter.
EXO Lay Recent Activities
On May 31, 2022, Lay released the song "Time to Shine" with Nick Young. The song was released as a tribute to the 75th anniversary of the NBA. The song was played during a Golden State Warriors game.

On April 8, 2022, Lay released the song "JIU" to celebrate his and EXO's tenth-year debut anniversary.
Lay is slated to play the main role in the upcoming Chinese film "No More Bets." No information concerning character names or release dates has been released. He will be acting alongside Gina Jin.

Lay is slated to appear in several Chinese dramas. He will be acting in the shows "Fang Shou Yi Bo" and "Unknown Crime." Both dramas have yet to release an official airing date. His character name in "Unknown Crime" is Xia Mu.
In 2023, Lay will act in the Chinese drama "The North of the Space."

In China, Lay is the face of several brands. Some brands Lay endorses include Epson China, WEDGWOOD, and Hublot.
