Do you think these K-pop songs will still become huge hits if performed by the artists originally meant to sing them?
7 Hit Songs That Were Meant for Other Idols:
1. Girl's Day's "Something"
The 2014 hit track "Something" wasn't actually for Girl's Day!
Originally, the song was supposed to be performed by former SISTAR member Hyolyn. But after listening to it, she declined to put it on her solo album because she felt like it didn't suit her style.
But who would have thought that this song would become a huge hit after being given to Girl's Day?
2. Girls Generation's "Into The New World"
Actress Heebon and Seo Hyun Jin's group M.I.L.K was supposed to release the iconic song, "Into The New World," but they disbanded just before they could record it.
As a result, BM Entertainment, the sister group of SM Entertainment, passed it to the agency. Later on, it was selected to become Girls Generation's debut track.
Upon its release, it became a historical song associated with the South Korean protest culture.
3. IZ*ONE's "La Vie en Rose"
"La Vie en Rose," performed by IZ"ONE, is considered to be of the most iconic debut songs from third-gen girl groups.
Aside from its official MV gaining hundreds of millions of YouTube views, it was also the same song that gave IZ*ONE their first music show win just 10 days after their debut.
But, did you know that it was originally meant for CLC? Unfortunately, Cube Entertainment rejected it.
4. I.O.I's "Very Very Very"
I.O.I had a successful career after their track "Very Very Very" became a huge hit in 2016. Interestingly, Jeongyeon in 2019 revealed that the song was written by JYP for TWICE.
Ultimately, the song was given to I.O.I, while TWICE released "TT" in the same year. Both became massive hits.
5. NCT Dream's "Chewing Gum"
When NCT Dream debuted, they gained huge attention for their debut track, "Chewing Gum," which wasn't only praised for its refreshing sound but also for its unique choreography. On top of it, it also featured dance moves while using hoverboards, which make the whole routine more complicated.
But fun fact! The song was actually written for Red Velvet! Can you imagine the girl group dancing on hoverboards?
6. IU's "dlwlrma"
When IU dropped her popular self-written song "dlwlrma" under her "Palette" album, the singer revealed that she wasn't really planning to release it herself.
Originally, IU tailored the whole lyrics to match Oh My Girl's concept.
But after thinking for a while, she said that she wanted to try releasing a song with a bright concept. Thus, she decided to include it in her album.
7. Kyuhyun's "At Gwanghwamun"
Kyuhyun's hit track, "At Gwanghwamun," was initially for Super Junior's sub-unit KRY as a b-sidetrack. But when Kyuhyun heard it, he was convinced that the song was title track-worthy.
In the end, they did not include it in their album and Kyuhyun released it as his solo song!
