When Super Junior first made their debut back in November 2005, the SM Entertainment-formed boy group originally featured 12 members and subsequently 13 in 2006. However, three members left the group over the years - one being Kangin. Three years after his departure, what has Kangin been up to?
Keep on reading to know Kangin's current status.
Kangin's Activities Before Leaving Super Junior
As a member of Super Junior, Kangin served as the group's sub-vocalist. The group officially debuted as Super Junior 05 on November 6, 2005, with the single "Twins (Knock Out)." However, they later dropped the "05" from their name, following Kyuhyun joining the group.
With Super Junior, Kangin joined the group in releasing their hit songs "U" and "Sorry Sorry." He also joined the sub-units Super Junior-T and Super Junior-H. He also starred in the Super Junior film "Attack on the Pin-Up Boys."
Kangin halted his promotions with the group beginning October 2009 and rejoined the Super Junior's activities during the promotions for their sixth studio album "Sexy, Free & Single."
For the next couple of years, Kangin focused on his broadcast appearances on several programs.
Why Did Kangin Leave Super Junior?
Kangin was involved in multiple scandals that persisted over the years. In September 2009, he was involved in an assault case in a Seoul bar. He was arrested for displaying acts of violence but was later released after proving that he had only acted in self-defense. However, his involvement in the case resulted in brands dropping him and temporarily suspending his activities with Super Junior.
But in October 2009, Kangin was involved in a DUI and hit-and-run case after colliding with two parked taxis and fleeing the scene. He later turned himself into the police, where he was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.082 percent. Kangin also failed to appear at the police station for his scheduled investigation.

His activities, both group and individual, were all canceled that year. And in January 2010, he was indicted for driving under the influencer and a hit-and-run and was fined ₩8 million KRW (around $6,000 USD). After that, Kangin enlisted for his mandatory military service the same year.
He was later involved in his second DUI and hit-and-run in 2016, with a blood alcohol content of 0.05 percent. Like before, his activities were canceled, and he was only sentenced to pay a fine of ₩7 million KRW (around $5,330 USD).
In November 2017, Kangin was again involved in an assault case, where he was found drunk and assaulting a woman at an escort bar. As the victim did not press charges, Kangin was released.
With his string of scandals, he didn't promote with Super Junior since 2015. Kangin officially left the group in July 2019.
Kangin's Current Status Following His Scandals
Kangin has been relatively quiet these past years due to the intense backlash he faced for his scandals. But in 2019, he did star in the web drama "What Happened to Mirae?" which was his first project since 2016.
Other than that, Kangin has not appeared on any other broadcasts. He is also not as active on social media, with his last Instagram post being in November 2021.
However, he does have his own fashion brand called Demebeta, which he has been silently managing.
