BLACKPINK's 'Pink Venom' Copied Rihanna's 'Pon de Replay,' More Songs by Different Artists?
On Aug. 19, BLACKPINK came back with new music after almost two years of group hiatus. Their latest song, titled "Pink Venom," serves as the pre-releasing single for their upcoming full-length album "BORN PINK."
According to a report by Preen, "Pink Venom" meshes "a classic hip-hop beat with a melody accompanied by traditional Korean instruments, such as the geomungo, the Korean plucked zither" Jisoo plays at the beginning of the music video while dressed in a hanbok-inspired gown.

The incorporation of traditional Korean instruments and other elements of Korean culture is a continuous practice for the girls. Previously, the quartet sported modernized hanboks in the "How You Like That" music video.
While the song as a whole is exceptionally captivating, a few parts of it came as a surprise to fans as BLACKPINK's "Pink Venom" included lyrics that sound familiar to many.
In the first verse, Lisa sings, "one by one then two by two," which is slightly similar to the lyrics "It goes one by one, even two by two" in Rihanna's "Pon de Replay."

It may look like the South Korean girl group sampled "Pon de Replay," but it's more of using an interpolation: they recreated the original sound.
"Pon de Replay" was Rihanna's debut project, as well as the title single off her 1st full album "Music of the Sun," released in 2005, 17 years ago.
BLACKPINK members have previously spoken before about how Rihanna serves as an inspiration for them. And during the group's interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year, Jennie mentioned the artist as her example of how versatile hip-hop can be.

In addition to Rihanna's "Pon de Replay," BLACKPINK included lyrical references to Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" in the line "Look what you made us do," Notorious B.I.G's "Kick in the Door" in Jennie's line "Kick in the door, waving the coco," and 50 Cent's "P.I.M.P" in Lisa's "You couldn't get a dollar outta me."
On YouTube, one user posted a Short video where he compared the lyrics from BLACKPINK's "Pink Venom" with the lyrics from the other songs mentioned above.
