BLACKPINK Lisa once again proved her global impact as a hot icon following THIS achievement! BLINKs, especially Lillies, celebrate the incredible feat on Twitter with the phrase, "LISA MILLION SELLER."
Lisa Becomes First K-pop Female Soloist To Surpass 1M Sold Units in the U.S.
On September 10 (US local time), BLACKPINK Lisa's solo debut track, "MONEY," was officially recognized as "Platinum" by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), reported by the Korean media outlet TopStarNews.
In particular, "MONEY," which was released on September 10, 2021, continues to become a "dance craze" even among non-K-pop fans, leading it to continuously rank in major charts even after a year has passed.
As a result, she became the first K-pop female solo artist to sell more than 1 million units in the world's largest music market.
The "RIAA Certification," which is given by the RIAA based on the sales of albums and singles in the U.S., is considered to be the standard of the music industry.
Depending on the sales of singles and albums, RIAA certifies them as Gold (over 500,000 copies), Platinum (over 1 million copies), Multi-Platinum (over 2 million copies), and Diamond (over 10 million copies). It is calculated including album sales, paid digital downloads, and audio and video streaming.
Currently, Psy is the only K-pop solo artist in Korea who has been certified as RIAA, and Lisa became the second K-pop solo artist to be certified as RIAA after Psy.
To commemorate this success, BLINKs (BLACKPINK fandom) and Lillies (Lisa individual fandom) had a Twitter party to congratulate the female star using the key phrase, "LISA MILLION SELLER."
Meanwhile, "MONEY" is a hip-hop genre dance track with a minimal and sophisticated sense. This especially strengthens the unique musical identity of rapper and hip-hop artist Lisa.
Lisa's vivid and colorful charm as a solo artist doubled as she kept the texture of the music she had shown through BLACKPINK activities. It features addictive brass riffs, intense piano sounds, and outspoken lyrics.
As of writing, "MONEY" MV released on September 23 has over 672 million views, proving her influence and power on YouTube.
BLACKPINK Lisa Flaunts Girl Crush Charm in Individual Teaser for 'Shut Down'
On the other hand, BLACKPINK heralds their full-fledged comeback with its second full-length album, "BORN PINK."
On September 12, YG Entertainment then released Lisa's individual poster for the album's title track, "Shut Down," following Jisoo, Jennie and Rosé.
In the photo, the idol exudes hip and girl crush charisma, drawing attention for her hairstyle, visuals and accessories used, such as her lip piercings and silver set accessories. Her hip fashion style also drew interest.
With the individual photos of the members, the expectation for its title song increased. Regarding the song, YG Entertainment hinted:
"It is a sensuous sampling of Paganini's classical number, 'La Campanella.' It will open a new horizon for BLACKPINK music."
BLACKPINK will return to the music scene with its second full-length album "BORN PINK" at 1 p.m. KST on September 16.
