BLACKPINK Becomes First Girl Group to Hit 1 Million First Day Sales With 'BORN PINK'

Recently on September 16 at 1pm KST, YG Entertainment's four-member girl group BLACKPINK finally released their highly-awaited second studio album "BORN PINK," which marks the group's first release in over two years following their first studio album "THE ALBUM" released in October 2020.

With this being BLACKPINK's first comeback in a long time, it is expected that their new release would make waves on music charts and social media.

In fact, on September 17 KST, it was announced by Hanteo Chart that their album "BORN PINK" had sold more than a million copies just a day after its release. According to the chart, "BORN PINK" recorded an impressive 1,011,266 copies sold in less than 24 hours.

With such a sales figure, BLACKPINK became the first girl group whose album sold more than a million copies on the first day of its release in Hanteo Chart's history.

"BORN PINK" is also nearly the double of their previous album "THE ALBUM," which recorded 589,310 album copies sold just a day after its release back on October 3, 2020.

Thus, BLACKPINK is currently the only girl group whose album surpassed a million copies in less than 24 hours, and the third overall among all of the K-pop artists as they follow behind BTS and SEVENTEEN.

BLACKPINK's 'BORN PINK' Lands at No. 1 on Music Charts Worldwide

Meanwhile, "BORN PINK," which contains a total of eight songs, including "Pink Venom" and "Ready for Love" which were released prior to the album's release, as well as their title track "Shut Down," has taken over the top ranks of numerous iTunes charts around the world.

According to YG Entertainment on September 17 KST, "BORN PINK" has taken over No. 1 on the iTunes Top Albums chart in more than 54 different countries and regions, including the United Kingdom and United States.

In addition, "BORN PINK" also took the top spot on Apple Music's Top Albums Chart in at least 60 different countries and regions, proving the group and album's global popularity.

Their title track "Shut Down" also showed tremendous success, having shot to the top of several iTunes charts in at least 43 countries around the globe.

Meanwhile, the girl group is currently preparing for their upcoming world tour, which will be kicked of in Seoul on October 15 KST.
