Most K-pop groups usually disband for common reasons, such as the members failing to renew contracts, deciding to pursue different paths or go their separate ways, or even due to the group's lack of popularity. At times, groups even go on an indefinite hiatus that is similar to an unofficial disbandment. However, these groups ended up disbanding for other reasons.
With that, here are four K-pop groups that had controversial disbandments.
1. X1
X1 was the product of the fourth and final season of the Produce series. The group debuted as the project boy group of Produce X 101 in August 2019 and was contracted to promote for five years. However, their promotions were short-lived as several officials of Mnet and the show were investigated for voting manipulation, which they were later found guilty of.
Amid all of this, the group had to halt all of their activities. Followed by a negotiation with the members, their respective agencies, and officials regarding their future. In the end, the negotiation was unsuccessful, and the group ultimately disbanded in January 2020 after six months, in addition to public scrutiny.
2. Triple H
Triple H was Cube Entertainment's co-ed group that debuted back in May 2017 with HyunA and PENTAGON members Hui and E'Dawn (now DAWN) as the members. However, in August 2018, it was reported that HyunA and DAWN had been dating each other since May 2016. As a result, Cube Entertainment announced the termination of their contracts in September 2018, citing that the trust between them and the artists have been broken.

3. GLAM
GLAM was HYBE's (formerly Big Hit Entertainment) first-ever girl group that debuted back in July 2012. However, less than two years after making their debut, member Dahee became involved in a blackmailing scandal with actor Lee Byung Hun, who had accused the idol and a model, Lee Ji Yeon, of using a video as leverage to blackmail the actor.
According to reports, Dahee and her accomplice were trying to blackmail ₩5 billion KRW (around $3.6 million USD) out of Lee Byung Hun. She was later found guilty and setenced to a year in prison, which was later altered to a two-year suspension. At the same time, HYBE announced the disbandment of GLAM in January 2015.
4. K'Pop
Dating is usually prohibited among idols who is just starting their career, even more so when it is among group members. K'Pop was a first-generation boy group that debuted in January 2001, but they reportedly disbanded due to two of the members being in a romantic relationship with each other. Not only that, but one of them had reportedly cheated with another male idol from a different group.

After the infidelity was discovered, the other member had reportedly assaulted the cheating partner in question. This ultimately led to a rift between the members, and eventually caused them to disband. However, former member Donghwa explained that the reason for their disbandment was due to "conflicts with the management company."
