Mnet's "Boys Planet" is a male version sequel of the survival show "Girls Planet 999," which aired from August to October last year and featured a total of 99 contestants coming from Korea, Japan, and China. The latter show is known to have formed the project girl group Kep1er.

Should PENTAGON Hui appear on "Boys Planet 999" as one of the participants, he will walk the same path as Kep1er Choi Yujin. Under CUBE Entertainment, Yujin, a former member of CLC, competed in "Girls Planet 999" and went on to debut as a member of Kep1er.

Mnet's "Boys Planet" chose a total of 98 contestants, who started filming the show earlier this month. The program is aiming to premiere sometime in February next year.

Unlike "Girls Planet 999," which was only open to aspiring idols from Korea, Japan, and China, Mnet's upcoming boy group survival show welcomed applicants from 84 countries and regions including the United States, Canada, Japan, China, Thailand, Europe, Vietnam, and the Middle East, to name a few. Reportedly, a total of 229 companies took part in the audition, including large agencies.

Meanwhile, Hui made his debut as a member of PENTAGON in October 2016. He is recognized for his ability to produce songs. He doesn't only create songs for his group but for other artists as well. A few of his works include WANNA ONE's "Energetic," Ong Seong Wu's "Heart Sign," PENTAGON's "Shine," CIX's "Tesseract," and Produce 101's "Never."

Attention is focused on whether PENTAGON Hui, who was just discharged from the military last month, will resume his activities through Mnet's "Boys Planet" after going on a hiatus due to his military service since 2021.
