Among BLACKPINK, TWICE and Red Velvet, the latter was deemed "less popular" especially overseas. In an article, a Korean media outlet highlighted THINGS that make them, nevertheless, "so special."
Red Velvet Is 'Less Popular' Than TWICE & BLACKPINK, But Media States Why Group Is Special
On March 2, the Korean media outlet Newsis released an article highlighting Red Velvet's popularity as well as the reason they shine best for fans, especially ReVeluvs (fandom).
The article originally covered the quintet's recent concert, "Red Velvet 4th Concert: R to V" in Seoul, which later on provided an in-depth analysis of their success.
Ultimately, the outlet implied that Red Velvet is "less popular" than top-tier third-gen girl groups BLACKPINK and TWICE especially when it comes to overseas performance, yet emphasized the things that made the team "special."
Newsis stated:
"Red Velvet has the most classical sentiment among K-pop girl groups."
The media explained:
"Red Velvet follows a different path even though its agency SM Entertainment was creating 'SMCU' based on the worldview, KWANGYA. As other teams walked into the virtual world, Red Velvet indulged in classics.
A homage to a famous painting in the music video for 'Feel My Rhythm' is an example. Red Velvet also looked like a girl group that wanted to be 'one-of-a-kind', rather than to become 'famous."
Red Velvet Builds 'Queendom': Reason Group Has More Female Fans
Unlike other girl groups with certain images, what makes Red Velvet special is that their atmosphere changes significantly depending on who is playing the CENTER role.
"If Irene, who has a classic beauty, is the center, it feels like a famous masterpiece. If all-rounder Seulgi sits in the middle, the team will be specially balanced. Wendy, who surprised female fans by showing off her abs and back muscles this time, creates a graceful curve with her singing ability and cheerfulness.
When Joy, who has a refreshing image, sits at the center, the concert hall is ventilated by her 'blowing of the confetti.' (*reference to Joy's killing part in 'Feel My Rhythm'). The lovely youngest, Yeri, knows how to create and fill the beauty of space.
With this charm, there are many women in Red Velvet's fandom and there are various nationalities and races."
Indeed, compared to other girl groups, Red Velvet has a shocking greater ratio of female fans than male supporters. According to the media, the main reason the "Happiness" singers were receiving great love from women was:
"Red Velvet is loved for its ability to perform dynamic and delicate stages at the same time, but there is also a reason why the moments when their expressive power is converted into stages are transparent.
There is no effort to embellish and Red Velvet gives off an essential classic beauty. It's a verbal agreement between the members and the stage. This is why Red Velvet does not miss the status of 'Queendom."
Lastly, Red Velvet is not equivalent to only one season, Red Velvet is the whole four seasons.
