SHINee Taemin Completes Military Service, Embarks on Group Comeback in May
On April 4, SHINee Taemin became the talk of the town after his return from the military!
On this day, the male idol was finally discharged from the camp after he completed an alternative service for public social workers.
In particular, he joined the army as a military band officer on May 31, 2021, and was initially set to come out on November 2022.
However, his agency SM Entertainment announced his transfer from active duty to a supplementary service in January 2022 due to his worsening depression and panic disorder. At the time, SM also attested to fans that they will monitor the idol's health until his recovery.
With this, his original military discharge date was also moved to April 4.
Finally, after two years of waiting for his return, Taemin is back in the music scene as a soloist and SHINee member!
In fact, just right after his discharge, multiple Korean media outlets, especially SHINee World/Shawol (fandom), expressed anticipation for the group's comeback scheduled in May.
The group has also raised expectations on the kind of music they will release, which will become a special way to commemorate their 15th debut anniversary on May 25.
SHINee Taemin Victim of Malicious Comments for His 'Puffy' Appearance
On the same day, the "WANT" singer didn't waste time and immediately took to Instagram to meet Shawols who had waited for him for about two years.
On this day, he thanked fans for not giving up on him as well as continued to communicate with supporters in different languages.
Following his personal broadcast, an online user posted screen captures of Taemin's current look right after his discharge, and mocked his "puffy" appearance by teasing that it felt like he got fillers in his face.
They continued to make fun of SHINee members including Onew, saying that even the leader's no-makeup look was better than Taemin's.

In March, Onew particularly got criticized as well for allegedly looking "old" for his no-makeup appearance. At the time, fans came to "O (Circle)" singer's defense by explaining he was only tired after nonstop promotion in Korea and Japan as a soloist.
This time, Shawols also defended Taemin and sternly called out the uploader to leave the idol alone. Fans especially stated that the idol looks the same, and that he looks healthier compared to when he entered the camp.
In fact, fans were happy that Taemin looks like he was getting enough rest and meals when he was completing his supplementary service.
Shawols continue by denying surgery rumors.
- "He just gained weight."
- "The op needs surgery the most."
- "He looks healthy and happy. Just leave him alone."
- "I think he looks handsome."
- "He looks the same though? He just ate good food but what changed?"
Following major backlash from Shawols, the original poster eventually deleted their post.
