Former Berry Good Daye Wins Legal Battle Against School Bullying Accusations

On August 29, the Korean media JTBC wrote an exclusive report announcing that Daye, a former Berry Good member has been cleared of school violence and sexual harassment rumors that sparked in May 2019.

Daye and her agency at the time, JTG Entertainment, immediately denied the allegations, but another posting was revealed, "exposing" the idol's school violence record. She denied it again and warned the accuser of taking legal action against the anonymous poster.

In 2020, Daye proceeded to sue defendant A for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection A.K.A. "Network Act" (defamation) and intimidation.

After about four years, Daye can finally and proudly say she didn't do anything wrong after the court judged the case in her favor.

"The court judged that Defendant A's (crime) is guilty considering the victim's reputation, threatening the victim, and the mental pain suffered by the victim by posting defamation through the information and communication network."

Regarding the accuser's punishment, the court added:

"A fine (2 million won of 1.5k USD) was imposed on the defendant on the following factors: the fact that the defendant is reflecting on the crime, the fact that the defendant is a first-time offender with no criminal record, and the fact that there are there are some reasons to take into account the details of the crime."

Berry Good Daye's Bullying Accusation Case

The girl group Berry Good, which debuted in 2014, introduced Daye as its new member in 2015 after Subin, Iera, and Nayeon left the same year. They received decent success for songs such as "Angel," "I Like You" and "Mellow Mellow."

In 2019, Daye announced a temporary hiatus due to poor health. Just then, accuser A wrote an article on the online community on May 28, 2019, that the female idol bullied her in the past while attending the Buk-Seoul Middle School.

The accuser claimed that she was only 13 and in 6th grade at the time when the bullying and sexual harassment started after knowing that she was close with the guy that Daye "liked."

In a related post, the accuser added that Daye was disciplined for five days of school service and four hours of special education for school violence.

However, the court attested that Daye had never been subjected to school violence or was disciplined because of it. After "retiring" from the music scene in 2019 to focus on her health recovery and to study abroad, the idol continued to fight the case and her name was fully cleared after about four years.
