In a surprise turn of events on Kim Jaejoong's new variety show, "JaeFriends," the former TVXQ member found himself face to face with his ex-labelmate, Girls' Generation's Sooyoung.
Sooyoung, who joined SM Entertainment in 2000 through an open audition, was a senior within the company when Jaejoong arrived a year later through his audition. However, it was Jaejoong who debuted first with TVXQ's "Hug" in 2003, leaving Sooyoung to follow shortly after.
A "Huge Issue" Unforgotten
During the show, Sooyoung seized the opportunity to revisit a significant memory from 2008. She recounted the time when Girls' Generation was promoting "Kissing You" while TVXQ was promoting "Purple Line."
In a rare twist of fate, TVXQ performed before Girls' Generation on a music program, a practice typically reserved for senior groups. This unusual occurrence was due to a scheduling conflict that led the rookie girl group to run late for their live Music Bank filming.
As Sooyoung shared this story, she expressed her amazement that Jaejoong didn't recall the incident, considering it was a "huge issue" at the time.
She vividly described how Girls' Generation members rushed through the KBS building with their candy props, fearing they might miss their performance. To their relief, TVXQ went on stage first.
Sooyoung fondly remembered senior artists in the building applauding in support of the stressed Girls' Generation members as they raced through the hallways.
Remarkably, on that very day, the girl group clinched their first-place music program trophy, a significant achievement just six months into their debut.
Sooyoung confessed that the Girls' Generation members had felt apologetic for various reasons regarding the situation and wanted to know how Jaejoong had felt about it.
Netizens' comments:
- "Soo Young is straightforward and honest as usual, so effortlessly savage and funny. So nice to see SNSD and TVXQ together, like a dream of childhood"
- "The tears at the end are a deep reaction, reminiscing their past, being able to meet and talk to her, hearing her message to her fans, like in the old days... those are tears filled with happiness and relief wishing Jaejoongie the best and hopefully he can meet more of his formal trainee mates and friends"
- "I knew from the beginning that we didn't give Sooyoung enough love and it made me sad to hear it from her mouth..they are truly the cornerstones of kpop and they put in more effort than anyone else, it all started with them but even if people know that they don't care..Them rightly deserves their efforts"
- "A few days ago I saw them watching Taeyeon's concert and they were very close, almost 3 months later and now they are filming together."
- "Soo Young, don't ever under-estimate yourself. You were fantastic in "Not Others" and looking forward to more dramas. I Love your work."
Although he didn't recall the incident, Jaejoong assured Sooyoung that TVXQ was probably happy to perform early and go home sooner.
In the end, it was a heartwarming reunion filled with reminiscences, laughter, and the understanding that some memories may fade, but the bonds formed during those early years of their careers remain strong.
