Singer and producer Rain faces a legal battle against his mansion's buyer after the latter claimed that the idol scammed him worth 6 million USD.
Citizen Sues Rain for Alleged Real Estate Fraud Worth 8.5B KRW
K-pop icon, actor, and producer Rain has been embroiled in allegations of real estate fraud.
On September 25, the suspicion that he scammed someone arose after informant A told an accusation content YouTuber Juhnhee Lee:
"We sued Rain for fraudulent real estate sales worth 8.5 billion won (6.34 million USD)."
According to the video, the accuser made a deal to sell his Namyang New Town building in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province to Rain for 18.7 million USD, in exchange for buying Rain's mansion in Itaewon, Seoul for 6 million USD.
In the process, the accuser claimed that the victim expressed their intention to visit Rain's mansion, but the male idol refused, citing concerns about privacy infringement, and only showed the house's pictures.
The buyer liked the house and ended up buying it just after seeing the photo, believing Rain since he was a celebrity and he dealt with a big real estate company.
However, the victim argues that the reality of the building identified after the contract was completely different from the photo shown by the real estate agent.
As a result, the victim reportedly filed a complaint with the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul in August against Rain on charges of fraud under the Act on Aggravated Punishment for Specific Economic Crimes.
Rain Releases Official Statement Denying Real Estate Fraud Accusations
On September 26, Rain directly refuted this and predicted legal action, calling it an attempt to "tarnish the celebrity's image."
Rain Company said:
"The buyer's claim related to Rain is false. It is just too much of a scratch because the seller is a celebrity.
Even in common sense, it is absurd to purchase a house worth billions of won just by looking at pictures, and the buyer's claim is incorrect even when looking at the register or building register provided or confirmed when buying or selling real estate.
Only the exterior of the house is visible from the outside. You can confirm it just by looking at it."
Rain's side hinted to countersue, adding:
"We are already securing evidence that the buyer's claim is not true. If the buyer files a complaint for false facts, we will submit it as evidence in accordance with legal procedures. The buyer's belated doing this can only be seen as making a malicious scratch to tarnish our celebrity.
The facts are very clear, and the buyer's claim is completely deviated from common sense and reality. We will take strong legal action against those who take advantage of the fact that they are celebrities to engage in such acts, and we will never allow such cases of damage, including false incitement, to occur again. We will set a precedent to prevent this from happening."
