BIGBANG G-Dragon Releases Official Statement Denying Illegal Drug Use
On October 27, G-Dragon, a member of the "King of K-pop" group BIGBANG, completely denied the allegation of drug use.
While YG Entertainment initially distanced itself from GD's case implying that he is "no longer their artist," the idol took the matter into his own hands and released his official position.
On this day, Kim Soo Hyun, the icon's lawyer, conveyed through a press release:
"As a response to the news that has been spreading indiscriminately in the media which is not based on the facts, I convey Kwon Jiyong's (GD's real name) position as follows."
GD then denied the allegations, saying:
"I am Kwon Jiyong. First of all, I have never taken drugs. It is also irrelevant to the recent news reports on the "violation of drug control laws" released in the media."
The K-pop star, however, attested to everyone that he would cooperate with the police to ease people's concerns.
"I know that many people are concerned, so I will actively cooperate with the investigation of the investigative agency and work more faithfully."
Currently, the celebrity is under investigation and it was reported that the police are considering banning Lee Sun Kyun and BIGBANG G-Dragon from leaving South Korea in the meantime.
G-Dragon Booked on Drug Charges Without Detention
The aforementioned response was made after the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's drug crime investigation team recently reported that the "Still Life" singer was booked on drug charges without detention after allegedly violating the Narcotics Control Act.
The police reportedly received a statement that G-Dragon took drugs while investigating a female employee at an entertainment establishment in Gangnam, Seoul, who was involved in the actor Lee Sun Kyun drug scandal.
Police believe that G-Dragon took psychotropic drugs illegally. The police plan to confirm the exact type and frequency of drug use against the male idol soon.
However, it was also clarified that GD's case has nothing to do with the veteran actor.
It is not the first time that GD was involved in a drug scandal. In 2011, he was first sent to the prosecution on charges of using marijuana at a Japanese club. He took a hair test and the result from the prosecution came back positive.
He was saved from the accusations after the prosecution suspended the case.
In 2012, GD clarified the issue through a national broadcast, stating that he mistook cannabis for cigarettes. At the time, he couldn't tell the difference because he had no knowledge of what marijuana looks and smells like. He insisted that he was innocent, saying:
"It doesn't make sense that lies work, and if I lied, I don't think I would have seen people."
