Earlier, the Korean media reported that BIGBANG G-Dragon was booked for illegal drug use. But during a recent police conference, the "truth" was unveiled, and VIPs then expressed their anger due to an attempt to defame the idol.
G-Dragon Was Never Contacted by Police for Illegal Drug Use — Is K-Media Behind this 'LIE'?
G-Dragon, the leader of the "King of K-pop" group BIGBANG, was recently embroiled in a controversy over illegal drug use.
On October 25, various Korean media outlets reported that the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's drug crime investigation team booked GD (Kwon Jiyong) without detention on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
In response, G-Dragon denied the accusations through a legal representative on the 27th.
"I have not taken drugs. I will actively cooperate with the investigation of the investigative agency and work more faithfully."
While netizens were quick to criticize the idol and even analyzed the recent clips of the star allegedly showing symptoms of drug addiction, the police made a clarification.
"Regarding Mr. Kwon's summoning schedule, we are still in the process of verifying the illegal drug use accusations, so we haven't reached a stage to consider summoning yet."
In fact, there is no interrogation let alone a reagent test that has taken place yet. Among the names that were booked by the police, there is also no G-Dragon.
Lee Jinho, a journalist-turned-YouTuber, who is notorious for being an insider, revealed that G-Dragon was not even aware that he was booked without detention for illegal drug use. In fact, he only became aware of the situation due to the Korean media who spread the news.
"Didn't G-Dragon claim he didn't do anything about this problem?
According to a person who contacted G-Dragon for the first time, G-Dragon's initial reaction was 'I've never heard from the police.' G-Dragon talked about his case like this and was very annoyed."
VIPs Furious After K-Media Leaked G-Dragon's Name Amid Verification
As a response, VIPs (BIGBANG fandom) expressed their frustration and anger towards Korean media outlets who reported about G-Dragon and mentioned his name although the investigation was still ongoing.
- "Media spreading fake news again and again."
- "What's wrong with South Korea's justice system?"
- "It's payback time now from G-Dragon."
- "He needs to sue everyone."
The idol continues to gain sympathy and support, now that it turns out that he's actually innocent after some implied that the media used GD's name to cover up a political controversy that is yet to explode.
As a response, fans and supporters of the male icon want G-Dragon to countersue and get back at the media outlets who revealed his name as if he was already "guilty."
Indeed, G-Dragon is not going to let people tarnish his name even more after choosing Lawyer Kim Soo Hyun from the law firm K1 Chamber to handle the case. This is the same law firm that handled the presidential impeachment case, and lawyer Kim is also a former judge of the Constitutional Court.
It is said that G-Dragon is thoroughly preparing for this situation.
