The quintet also became the first-ever K-pop girl group to win Artist of the Year since Girls' Generation in 2011. Meanwhile, in 2010, 2NE1 took the trophy for AOTY home.
When Girls' Generation won the award in 2011, the AOTY category was only won by K-pop boy groups since then. After 12 years, the award was finally claimed by NewJeans, one of fourth-gen's leading girl groups.

In other news, SEVENTEEN received the Album of the Year award in the second day. They also received the awards for Culture & Style, Best Male Group, and Best Dance Performance Male Group for "Super."
In a separate category, BTS received award for Worldwide Icon of the Year. NewJeans also received the Best Dance Performance Female Group for "Ditto."
